When to send invitations

Angela, on October 20, 2019 at 10:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 4

I was wondering when the best time to send my wedding invitations.

I am getting married on March 14th. I have some out of town guests to consider, as well as guests who might need to do some scheduling arrangements. I was wondering if I should send them before Christmas or after the holidays? When do you think is the best time? I just do not want people to dismiss the invite with all the Christmas/New Years festivities, nor do I want to be scrambling last minute for RSVPs.

Honestly, 8 weeks before really is plenty of time (especially if you have already sent STDs and/or given your OOT guests a heads up about the date/accommodations via email/text/etc.). Daughter's wedding was mid-January. Invites went out Thanksgiving week (8 weeks), with RSVP on Christmas Day (3.5 weeks before the wedding date), first "final numbers" were due to a vendor on January 4. That was PLENTY of time for everything. Their RSVPs were online, and on the due date, all but 10 people (in 3 households) were in, and daughter resolved those within 3 days. You can't get much more "in the middle of the holidays" than her timeline, and there weren't any issues. I think you can send your invitations in the first couple weeks of January. After the holidays, in the middle of winter, they will be a welcome piece of mail among the after-Christmas bills and give your guests something fun to look forward to! Good luck!

Hi Angela, wedding invitations normally go out 6-8 weeks before your wedding date depending on when your vendors need a final headcount. I would suggest sending them out the 2nd week in January and have the RSVP deadline 3-4 weeks after that. I hope this helps, Congratulations!

Sending out to be delivered after January 1 is probably plenty of time. People will be settling into the new year and traveling back home. Just be sure to know when you need your final head count and count back 6-8 weeks from there. Mine is March 28, but our final head count is due February 28, so I’m hoping to have the deadline be Feb 21, and send out by January 1 so that’s about 8 weeks before my head count is due.

We sent ours out 3 months in advance, and save the dates 10 months in advance. I'd send them out January 1 unless you have a lot of out of town guests, then I'd send them out December 1.
