When to send invitations?

Elizabeth, on February 22, 2020 at 7:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Hi!!! My fiance and I are getting married on July 5th, and our venue is on a popular lake. The venue is at least 45 minutes away from all guests, and about half of our guests live 5+ hours from the venue. We've noticed that local hotels are booking quickly, and the prices are also increasing quickly. Should we be sending invitations relatively soon? I've heard they should be sent no more than 6 weeks out, but that seems too late. Thank you!!

We sent ours 10 weeks out. I couldn't wait any longer, I was too excited.
I would think with a holiday weekend, 12 weeks could be fine. Can you block rooms? That might be a good idea if you can get a complimentary block.

I would send save the dates out now if you haven’t already. And make a room block so the rooms don’t fill up especially on a holiday weekend!

Send a save the date and include details so guest can book early, then send the invitations 2 months in advance.

Save-the-dates ASAP, preferably electronic so you can send them fast. Link to your wedding website and put hotel info on it. Invitations can wait until mid-May or so.

You need to send save the dates with hotel options or a room block. It's technically too early for invitations. Im sending mine April 15th for a June 7th wedding. We sent save the dates January 1st.

Our date is April 2021. It’s a destination wedding so we are sending save the dates April 2020. Invites will go out October 2020. Final head count January 2021. We needed to give our families plenty of time to save and book flights, hotels, baby sitters (adult only Vegas wedding), etc. It all depends on your circumstances. Send it out when it’s right for your situation.

I would do a hotel block especially for a holiday weekend. If you didn't send save the dates I'd get your invites out mid April at the latest

Why don’t you set up a few hotel blocks now? Then the room rate is locked in and buys you a little more time to send the invitations out
Also, did you send save the dates? We had people booking rooms before we sent invitations because they already knew the location and the date

I think you need to do two things:

    1. Send out a detailed save the date now (with enough info for people to register in their minds how they’ll get there and how soon); and
    2. Send out invites early. I completely disagree with ‘6-8 weeks’ before - it doesn’t give you adequate time to get RSVPs in before finalizing with your vendors. We are sending out invites at end of August / early September for our mid December early, our RSVPs alone are due 6 weeks before the wedding.
    Good luck!

I would suggest getting blocks of rooms!! Also, if you haven’t sent save the dates I would consider sending your invites next month!!
We are getting married August 1, so we are sending our invites our end of April (we didn’t so STD).

I also agree with setting up hotel blocks and maybe sending an e-save the date now with hotel information.

Then invites ~8-10 weeks before the wedding.
