When to send invitations and when to make the Rsvps due?

Kristen, on May 31, 2019 at 8:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hello!

I'm getting married on October 5, 2019! I have already sent out Save the Dates but I am not sure when to send the formal invitations. I've heard 6-8 weeks before? Any suggestions on when to make the RSVPs due?? I was thinking September 1st, or should it be a little closer to the wedding?

Thanks!

Yes, 6-8 weeks before the wedding is standard for the invitations. For RSVP date, you want to think about when your final headcount is due to the venue/caterer/whoever and give yourself a few days to inevitably need to track people down who do not send in their RSVPs.

My wedding is on October 9th and we are sending out invitations at the end of June and I’d like RSVPs back by September 9th at the latest, so that I can get my final head count to caterers and the seating chart done. We have many, many out of town guests! We did send out save the dates in January though, just to give OOT guests a good heads up! 6-8 weeks is standard, but it’s completely fine to send them out 12 weeks before if you have many OOT guests. Hope this helps!

Our wedding is October 20th but we have to have final headcount in by September 20th so we are mailing out invites July 10th with RSVP September 10th.

I would set the RSVP date 1-2 weeks before you need to give the caterer your final number. That way you have enough time to reach out to people you didnt hear from. I sent out my invitations 1 month before the RSVP date. Smiley smile

I think you timeline is perfect I made my RSVP due a month before because my final count was due two weeks before the wedding and that would give two weeks for late RSVPS so come ina and for me to reach out. If there are any people making a longer trip than others I would send out a little earlier. My wedding was a destination one for my mothers side as they were in CA and I'm in TX so I sent those out in late August early September and my wedding was in late December.
