When to schedule our Tinikling dance performance?

Tia, on January 8, 2020 at 11:03 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

My fiancé and I will perform a traditional dance for about 1-2 minutes at our reception! When should we schedule our dance for? It will be lighthearted and joyful. Fiancé and I don't want to do it after eating or drinking because that might be uncomfortable due to the nature of the dance Smiley tongue. Thanks for your input!

Will this be you and your FH's "first dance" or a separate dance altogether? We're having our first dance right after our introduction for the reception (before dinner is served). I would probably do this at the beginning of your reception so you can do it before eating/drinking Smiley smile

We were thinking about transitioning from a slow song and into the traditional dance! Because... it will technically be our first dance if we do it before eating and drinking. Hm...

That sounds like a great idea! As long as your DJ is capable of transitioning the songs well, I think your guests would LOVE that.

Hi Daniel! Thanks for your response. I don't speak tagalog but I can reply in English. Tinikling is known as being used by spanish colonizers as punishment but I think the reclamation of the dance by the younger generation is what resonates the most with me.

It’s fine I just curious as if you knew origin and how many suffered it is now done as a memorial to the suffering and pain. Unfortunately the new generation does not know any where things came from or happen. But it is fine I also see the humor in having a dance of pain and suffering for wedding. I do like the nature preserve it makes me wish I had one near me Enjoy your day

I can understand that. I want to share a little bit about the history of the dance with my guests by taking a moment to make a little speech that shares the historical suffering and the joy and the ultimate dance to honor my ancestors.

Daniel, do you have any suggestions for a different dance? Thanks!

It all depends on what island from. Each island has its own customs and dances as well
I am in Mindanao and we are different then Luzon and Cebu and even food is a bit different. We speak tagolin cause it national language but we speak basian as well here so if from Luzon you may not understand what we say. Which island from so I may be able help
Will be wearing traditional Filipino wedding or modern
