You still have time to do them. Even if you’re planning on using them for your STD’s; you may want to hold off.

Welcome to WeddingWire, Samantha!! Smiley ring

I personally think it's never too early for engagement pics, but that's because I love taking pictures this time of year and, to me, it's nice to have these professional pictures around for whatever purpose might arise.

I think when you take engagement pictures is really a personal preference. I know some people really want fall pictures, so they wait until the leaves are turning even if they're cutting it close and want to include them on their save the dates. Do you plan on doing that, using an engagement picture or two on your save the dates?

There's no rush, but you can if you want to. We did ours 13 months out so the seasons would be similar between the pics and the wedding.

I don't think it matters when you do your shoot you can do them as early as you would like. We chose to wait a bit. When we got engaged we booked our wedding two years out but waited over a year to do our engagement shoot because we were not in a rush. We just got them done early November, so 11 months out from the wedding day.

Do them whenever you want! Maybe think about the season you want to do them and go from there. Some people do engagement pics with the photographer they will be hiring for wedding day, can also be a good test run to see if you like someone's work.
