When to open the bar? When to close the bar?

Mumsie, on July 15, 2019 at 1:22 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 10

The wedding ceremony and reception will be at the same venue. The wedding ceremony will be in an outdoor space (weather allowing), while we will transition into an indoor space for the reception. I am wondering when you had your bar opened if your ceremony and reception were in the same venue. Also, how soon before the bride and groom depart the reception, I.e. clean up time, did you have the bar closed. Thanks for your sharing your experience and how it worked out.

Our bar will open immediately after the ceremony and will close 30 minutes before everyone needs to be out.

Our bar is going to open right after the ceremony for cocktail hour. Then close for entrances, dances and dinner (1 hr) then open up again for 4hrs (we have a 5hr open bar package). Our Ceremony and reception are at the same location, ceremony and cocktail hour outside and reception inside. The reception will go until 11pm and we have to clean up and be out by midnight.

We have been thinking that would be a good idea. Any suggestions on how to let the guests know when the bar will close. An announcement? A sign on the bar with the closing time? Both?

Our bar opens at 5:30, start of cocktail hour. Last call is 10:15, last served at 10:30. Our wedding ends at 11:00 PM.

A small sign and if you want the DJ to make a quick announcement they can.

We served sparkling rosé starting before the ceremony as guests arrived. We stopped serving alcohol 30 minutes before the wedding was over. During dinner we didn’t have a bar open where people had to get up and get drinks, we had waiters come around to each table to keep everyone’s drinks full.

We'll have alcohol right after the ceremony, n/a beverages before the ceremony. Last call will be 30 before the end of the reception except volunteers helping clean up. They can drink and clean. 😎

Many times the venue will dictate that for you. We opened our bar right after the ceremony so guests could enjoy cocktail hour and it was closed about 30 minutes before the end of our reception. Luckily for us they stayed open a while longer. 😊

Our open bar starts at noon and goes until 3:30. However, the cocktail hour will be about 50 mins and the bar will close while people find their seats into the reception & we do the wedding party introduction (probably around 15 - 20 mins). The closure will be announced, so if someone needs a refill they can grab it before they make their way into the reception.
