When to open a preserved dress

Stephanie, on February 10, 2018 at 2:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 2
Hi everyone, I am currently planning to wear my mother's wedding dress, which was preserved after her wedding in the 80s and is still in the box. I am trying to figure out when I should open it so that I can try on the dress to see if I will actually be able to wear it or if I will need to buy my own. I'm dying to try it on so that I can figure out if my budget needs to include a dress or just alterations. The earliest I would be getting married is probably spring of 2019, but it might not be until the following year. I'm afraid of it sitting out and getting ruined during the waiting period. I live in Florida, in case humidity makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If I were you, I'd Google that question. I would think it needs to air and be steamed. But research or even call a bridal shop for expert advice.

From what I read you can open it at any time just make sure you are showered and free of any oils or such before trying it on so that the oils do not transfer over to the gown itself. Also, keep a remembrence on how it was stored so it can be replaced if you are going to repack it. Worse case scenario can always take to DB to have represerved if you don't use it and wish to have it professionally done again for less than 200
