When to get serious about details

Rachel, on December 12, 2019 at 5:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
Hello brides 😇

Our wedding is at the beginning of May. We've booked almost all of our vendors and are sending invites out soon. When did you start getting detailed with your vendors about your big day? Is it too early for me to start bugging the florist with new ideas for centerpieces or decorations? Or speaking with the DJ about games and cocktail hour?

I'm waiting until 6 weeks out to iron out things with my DJ. I am meeting with the decorator and caterer and venue this week to discuss more since these are bigger items. I'm an April bride. I anticipate most little details will be the last 4-6 weeks

It is WAY too early to send invites. They go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.
I think it’s too early for everything on your list, actually.

That doesn’t make it a destination wedding. It makes it a wedding with lots of out of town guests. How does that affect when you design your centerpieces?

I don't think she was saying that made it a destination wedding. I think she was saying they ARE having a destination wedding AND he has family coming from Europe. At least that's how I read it. It doesn't affect centerpieces, I believe she was referring to your comment about it being way too early for her to send out invitations.

    Hi Rachel!

I'm not experienced at all in this because I was on a May wedding timeline and we actually pushed it back due to lack of planning among other things! I would think that it's never too early to share ideas with your florist, especially with May being as popular of a wedding month as it is. I would zone in on things with the DJ maybe a month or two out? I'm hoping you can get some better insight and feedback from someone newly married who can give you a better idea of timelines! I'm a pretty big procrastinator and tend to work better under pressure so usually the sooner I can get things done the better!

Lol, so what is a destination wedding? I live in Florida. Not sure if you've traveled overseas but typically people buy plane tickets for a big trip at least several months in advance. I've never gotten married before and cannot meet my florist in person, so genuinely asking about timeline.

A destination wedding would be if you are traveling somewhere unfamiliar to yourself and getting married.
Like if you're from Florida and getting married in Jamaica.

I would send out invites in late January so it wouldn’t get lost with the holiday mail and so still within enough time people overseas can book flights etc. Maybe around February, I would shoot a couple emails to the vendors about your ideas. You never know if it will cost more etc and can plan to budget accordingly.

Generally vendors are too busy to deal with your details until you’re 2-3 months away (since they’re dealing with the brides who’s weddings are sooner). I’d just make a thorough list of all your ideas and everything you need to do, and then take action when you’re 2-3 months away

He has family coming from thousands of miles away, so yes, you definitely can send invites out soon! My wedding is in late April and I am sending out invites in Late January because we also have relatives and friends from all over the country attending!

Have u sent out save the dates? If not then u should send them asap so the people coming from overseas can make their arrangements. This would allow you to send ur invites in a better time frame. Im having a diy wedding first weekend of April. The main vendors I need to iron things out with are the caterer, wedding coordinator, and the rental company. I will probably do that at end of February.
