When to choose bridesmaids dress

Kim, on July 3, 2019 at 4:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Has anyone chosen their bridesmaid dresses prior to buying your wedding dress? Have your bridesmaids begun to purchase their dresses? Is there concern the dresses may not “go” once you choose your dress?

I have an idea of the kind of dress I would like but have not been shopping and do not plan to until after the new year. However, there’s is a bridesmaids dress I have fallen in love with. Should I go ahead and let my ladies know or wait until I purchase my dress?

If the date in your profile is correct it’s way too early to be purchasing bridesmaid dresses. I would wait until next spring.

I agree that you should wait. You never know what will happen with your bridal party. It's usually recommended to wait until about 6 months out. I know for myself, personally, I would feel weird buying a dress this far out because I don't know where I'll be with my weight loss.

Take your time and get your dress first! And I never personally had any concern that my dress would not go with the BM dresses or vice versa.

I’m glad that worked out okay but weight can change or people can become pregnant. I say this as someone who has been a bridesmaid 14 times and had 10 bridesmaids in my own wedding. A bridesmaid dress never takes more than a few months to come in so I would hold off for right now.

I ordered swatches from 5 stores, then a few sample dresses from Azazie to decide on color! I did it before I bought my dress.

I would wait a bit longer before you decide on bridesmaids dresses. I say this because one of my ex-bridesmaids recently decided to end our friendship out of the blue, so you never know what could happen between you and your bridal party.

Thanks ladies. I was really just wondering if it was to early to decide on the specific dress and let the ladies know. Not that they actually needed to buy it now but had that option if they wanted. The concern was more so of choosing the BM dress before mine.

Im certainly in no rush to have them buy. Was just wondering if anyone was dead set on their BM dress before their own.

The trend now is to let the girls buy whatever dress they want in the color and length of your choice. I don't think anyone really pays attention to whether their dress matches your dress. Also, keep in mind if you do pick out their dress that you should first ask them what their budget is and choose a dress based on the lowest budget or pay the difference.

My friend had her bridesmaid dress before I got my dress but she is a bridesmaid in another wedding after mine where she will wear it but got it early as per the other brides request.

I think if you're positive of the BM dress it's fine, but they shouldn't feel pressured to buy them until next year seeing as the wedding is over a year away. I wouldn't worry about the dresses not matching yours though unless you're thinking of ivory or champagne for your ladies. Mine are in maroon Smiley smile

Gotcha. I would also caution against this because what if the dress is discontinued by next year?

    My wedding is September 19,2020.

I am having my girls meet me, at my local bridal store to pick out their dresses, July 20. The girls will all, but one, be in the area & I thought this was perfect to get it out of the way, let them
get fit and get dresses that compliment each other, in the same Sangria colour. The one who can't make it is in plum so it's not as crucial she be there.

I agree- wait until next spring to start picking out dresses. I went with my girls and the moms in April for our December wedding.

I had managed to book two back to back appointments on a Saturday for my dress and then theirs. I gave them the date and times and said "no pressure". Two of them have kids and one lives over an hour away so life can get in the way sometimes.

Sure enough everyone made it, we picked out dresses, and had a great time.
