Right now, round trip tickets to MCO (Orlando) from STL are about $450/pp for our dates (Oct 8-14). A lot of sites say the trend usually shows them being cheapest in September, but that's cutting it extremely close. With our honeymoon being in October, would you risk waiting til last minute for plane tickets, or suck it up and pay almost $1000 for a 4 hour flight ? Not really in our budget, but I wouldn't imagine it could get any more expensive. I just feel like it's going to fry my nerves waiting that long.

-Driving is out of the question, because we have brunch on the Sunday before, and it's about a 14 hour drive. We want to take some time and relax before the trip!

I've seen it as low as like $320, but we got tickets for our WDW trip last year for less than $200/pp. Was hoping for a good deal again, but honestly forgot it was Columbus day. Is that a big traveling weekend or something? I didn't think it would be a big deal lol!

We got two RT tickets for almost the price of one right now last year! granted it was for a May trip, not October. It just seems like so much money. And WW won't let me ETA my original post; this is for the honeymoon! We're actually getting married in WashMo on Oct 6th Smiley laugh

Ahh congrats! you're so close, i'm jealous! And Southwest is just as expensive right now as other places, but I like to fly with them when I can. I would be okay with booking the home flight later, but my FH doesn't really have paid time off from work yet, so that could be too risky.

Look at tickets from the Belleville airport (MidAmerica). Little drive but good deals to FL.

If it makes you feel better, I work for the Federal Aviation Administration. We get flyers and stuff with tips on how to purchase tickets through the airlines, and work with some airline pilots. But we don’t normally wait that long either.

I recommend taking a page out of the airline's playbook: hedging. You could buy a Southwest nonstop flight (looks like its about $320/pax for those dates) and if you happen to find a cheaper fare closer to the time, you can always cancel the Southwest ticket and use the credit for another flight.

I've read that the most affordable flights are 54 days before takeoff, and on a Sunday. We got lucky and got our tickets from PIT>PUJ, and 54 days before was on a sunday. They were about $30/piece cheaper than the day before we purchased. If you can handle it, I would say wait until at least July-August. But I know that I have a really hard time waiting, especially for things like plane tickets for my honeymoon!
