When to buy flowers?

Shannon, on January 18, 2017 at 4:37 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

I am planning on buying flowers from a store. How many days before the wedding is it okay to buy? And how should I help to keep the flowers looking healthy up until the date?

From a florist who can store them, condition them, keep them refrigerated, arrange them, and deliver them.

I'm not using a florist. Looking for information from someone who has bought their own flowers before. This is the DIY section...

I have. I did my own. It was a big fat pain in the ass and I had to rebuy a lot of them.

You cant buy anymore than 1 or 2 days in advance and they have to be stored in a cold place with water.

I don't have much experience but I can only imagine that DIY flowers has to be very stressful and challenging because of the time and expiration factor. Is there anything else you could DIY to cut costs? I know someone who went to a florist with pictures of her venue and flat out said "I have x amount of money, do what you want".

I would wait until the day before. This way to avoid spoiling any by buying too far in advance. DIY flowers are great if you do not have too many bouquets. If you think you and your bridal party (or whomever is helping) is capable then go for it! Just make sure you have a fridge big enough to store them and enough vases to hold them in while they're in the fridge. Good luck!

I'm only going to need a bouquet for myself. I may just get that through a florist to ensure it looks great. I wanted to put buckets of baby breaths around the reception area and possibly as aisle decoration. My center pieces will be in-soil flowers. This is the DIY project I am most looking forward!

We have a spare fridge in the garage and I have already taken the day before off from work.

Thanks for all the advice and ideas!

I am having my bulk flowers delivered 2 days before. The first day is prep, the second day is arranging. Best wishes!

Are you DIYing or just buying a pre-made bouquet from a grocery/floral store? I highly recommend the second option and I'd buy it no more than two days in advance. Ask if you can talk to the florist and get some care instructions before you buy. Most would be very happy to give advice.
