When to buy bridesmaid dress...

Mandi, on May 31, 2019 at 1:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
So I'm super excited because one of my best friends/bridesmaids is pregnant!!! I picked a dress thinking it would be a little forgiving if any of my bridesmaids got pregnant. And I thought there was a decent chance 2/4 of them could be.
Well one surprised us the other night at dinner.

So here's my question. When should my bridesmaid buy her dress?

It's her first pregnancy.
She's 5'2" and regularly a size 6ish. (The size 6 is a guess, but she's a tiny girl.)
She's due 3.5/4 months before the wedding.

Other info:
It's a new dress and they didn't have any in stock yet when I went to David's Bridal. And it's a special order color.

Anyone have any timeframe suggestions or sizing up suggestions?

My girl's ordered their dresses from David's bridal and they were quoted 6-8 weeks for delivery. They ordered Thanksgiving weekend and they were ready to be picked up 2 weeks later. I wouldn't cut it that close but if she is able to get sized/measured 2 months out then even if she needs a few alterations before the wedding it should be enough time.

I.... Would opt for a maternity style dress. The tight dress is going to be a huge gamble because it's her first pregnancy and you'll have no idea if she'll be a big carrier or pop late. And even if she's fitted now all it takes is a large baby a few weeks to make the dress not fit right. Maybe you could do more empire cut styled dresses that are actually forgiving?

Oh that's great to hear! I may just take her along if we go as a group and ask David's Bridal if this would be an ok option to be sure. But this is an excellent suggestion! Thank you!

Unfortunately, the dress isn't going to change. I want my girls in the same dresses, different colors. But since she's due in early December, I think a decent portion of the baby weight should be gone by the end of March.

I think also somewhere here someone said that at 3-5 months pregnant is about what you can expect for post-pregnancy size/measurements.

Well David's says 6-8 weeks, enough lurking in the formus will tell you to order 10-12 weeks to be safe and if you need any tailoring. I'd check your specific David's for reviews if more people say they run late or early to get an idea.
Also because it's not in stock yet I'd suggest waiting until you can at least see it in person, I had fallen in love with one online and in person it was horrible, and even worse on my MOH. David's can be good, or really bad and it's fairly expensive if it's bad.

Thank you! I made sure to see the fabric in person before I picked it. So I'm hoping its safe.

Do you know when they'll have the actual dress to see/try on? Fabric sits differently on different bodies. If you don't like the way looks once it gets in will they let you return? I know of their colors are not returnable.
I'm just making sure because David's is a bit pricey if you end up not liking it or they don't give you a quality product, and their customer service isn't the best either. In my area David's is very pushy and not good if they make a mistake.
They managed to order my dress a size too small despite me asking for the larger size so I am very cautious! Definitely wouldn't want to risk that ya know.
