When to bustle dress

Melissa, on October 20, 2017 at 11:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Just wondering, when exactly are all you ladies planning to bustle your dress? Right after the ceremony? After you get introduced at the reception? After the first dance??

I'm a bit confused of when it would be best to bustle my dress. I love my train and I kind of felt like walking in with it to the reception and still have it for the first dance but then again not sure if it'll be a good idea or what not because I don't want to be stepping on it or tripping on it.

Any brides who had their first dance with their train? How was it? Any regrets?

I'll attach photos of my train and bustle.

You're going to want to bustle that before the first dance. I would just do it before the reception. Logistically it just makes the most sense, I couldn't imagine dancing with a long train (it's hard enough in a long dress).

I bustled mine right after the ceremony when we arrived at the reception venue. My train was about as long as yours and it has a huge hassle. People were stepping all over it before the ceremony/while we were taking pictures. There's no way I could have done our first dance with my train out. We had spins and lifts in our dance and it would have been in the way.

I think it would be tough to have it down for your first dance. I left mine down for pictures and then my sister bustled it right before introductions and it stayed up the rest of the night.

Just like PP's have said, the women I've worked with as bridal attendant have always asked me, and I suggest bustling prior to being introduced/first dance, during the cocktail hour or if you have already taken your photo's, prior to going into the cocktail hour.

That being said, it is entirely your preference. If you want your train down for your first dance, ask your Bridal Attendant, or BM to bustle you immediately after so you don't get stepped on. Some bands/dj's will launch into dancing right away, and if that's the case, you'll need to step out and bustle. If your band/dj goes into toasts/speeches, bustle then.

Ugh same, I love my train & would wear it down all night if I could. I just hate the bustle. But I will probably bustle mine after the ceremony when pictures are all done.

I bustled it during cocktail hour, but discovered that it was easier for our first dance if I used the loop around my wrist instead (otherwise I was having trouble with the poof even while bustled when we did a few practice fox trot steps). So I unbustled it for our introduction and first dance and didn't end up bustling it again until after dinner and just before my father/daughter dance.

I had a really simple one point bustle so when I was done with the portraits after our ceremony, I just literally bustled it right outside then stared walking around talking to my guests at cocktail hour. So pre-reception.

I would say after pictures or right before your first dance. I want to leave mine down but I'm so little that I know for sure i would be tripping over it. Your bustle looks like mine. I love how it looks.

I left mine for photos and bustled right before we were introduced/joined cocktail hour.

I'm getting a wrist strap for my train, but with yours being so fluffy I'd recommend putting it up before the first dance. It's a gorgeous dress!

I bustled mine during cocktail hour, before our introduction and first dance. Then after I sat for dinner it wouldn't stay up (not sure if a button broke or what), so I ended up using the wrist strap the rest of the night. Anytime it was down someone, myself included, was stepping on it.

Our DOC told me after the ceremony and pictures to go see her and she'll bustle my dress before we go into the reception to be introduced. We are going right in to our first dance and it has a long train so I guess it sounds like good timing

We did it during cocktail hour while we were waiting to be introduced into the reception. I had a 7 point bustle and clear buttons. It took two BMs and my FG to find all of the buttons and tiny hooks, and it wasn't something that was completed instantaneously. It's not something you want to do in the reception area in front of your guests and once you enter the reception, you're not going to want to have to exit to do your bustle and then re-enter.

I would absolutely make sure it's bustled before the first dance. You and DH will trip over it and you won't be able to turn even slightly without it starting to tangle. It will fold over itself and wrap itself around your legs and even FH's legs. Your train won't look pretty while you're dancing if your goal is to show it off during the first dance.

Since I will have two dresses and don't want to pay to have them both bustled, I'm doing mine after the 1st dance, when I'm in my second dress.
