When to book hair stylist/MUA?

Amanda, on March 25, 2013 at 2:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

This is one of the few items left in my wedding vendor search. I'd like to find a hair stylist/MUA team of two people to come to the venue and do my hair and airbrush make-up, plus the moms, sisters, and any BMs who wish to have these services done professionally. But is it too early to book a hair stylist and MUA? Some background info: I live in a really small town, with only 2-4 decent hair/MUA options that I personally know of. A WW vendor search confirms this. With that in mind, I don't want to wait too long and be SOL a year from now. I was perusing one local salon's website, and it said brides should wait to book appointments until 2 months out! That just seems crazy last minute to me, given that every bride in the area is probably hoping to hire one of these few stylists.

Brides: when did you book your hair stylist/MUA?

Vendors: when do you recommend booking for this service?

I haven't booked my hair sylist/MUA yet, but I've been emailing with a few and am hoping to book fairly soon. I'm not getting married until November, but I figure sooner is better than later, especially if you only have a few option like in your case.

I booked mine a year out. I won't have my trial appointment until exactly two months before the wedding. I would say that if you find someone you like, the sooner you book them the better!

I booked it 7 months out. I knew the salon I wanted and the stylist so no brainer. My first trial is 3 months out. I hope it's everything I hoped for Smiley smile

I haven't found anyone local that I'm thrilled with. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the wedding industry is seriously lacking in my area! A pro could do well for him/herself here.

@Sarah B, okay I'm glad I'm not the only early planner! I still wouldn't have the trails until a month or two before the wedding, but I'd love to have the peace of mind that it's booked!

I did mine a couple months ago. I put it off so long. But everyone I contacted was still available. If you are going after an in demand artist, do it early. But I think it can wait. I will have my trial in 2 weeks.

Like everyone said the sooner the better. If you find someone you like and do a trial why not book? As a reference most months I will be unavailable every friday, saturday and sunday around 3 months out. I only do one wedding a day so if you decide to wait and someone else books you would be out of luck.

I say do some research and find the people you want and book them as soon as they will let you.

I booked a month ago so I would have it done and over with even though I am a year out.

I'm doing a trial on Friday to make sure I like this woman, and then I will probably book her if she's good. If not, then it's back to the hunt.

I have my first appt. 4/12/2013. I live in a large metro area so dates fill up fast and had to get in when I could. I would have preferred not to start trialing 6 months ahead though
