When to book a florist?

Pearl, on April 13, 2018 at 11:07 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

So far, I have my venue (includes catering and alcohol), DJ, and photographer booked. I was wondering when I should be booking a florist? I'm not 100% sure exactly what I want for my bouquet and centerpieces just yet and don't know if I would like to book because of that. Do you think if I waited another month to try to figure out what I wanted that the best floral shops would be unavailable?

I would think you have plenty of time, if your profile is correct for a 2019 wedding! My wedding is October of this year and I'm going to my first florist consultation this weekend. From everyone I've talked to, the Florist is towards the end of the checklist! But if you like to get things done early, there isn't any harm in it :-)

I'd prefer to get the "big things" out of the way or at least know that my date is secured with my preferred vendor. For DJ and photographer, I happened to know exactly what I wanted. My fear is that I'm going to pick one florist and then find out they cannot do what I want them to or that I found a better florist.

I think if you go now, speaking to a florist could help you decide 100% what you want. I had no idea what I wanted my bouquet to look like, other than I wanted it to be white, until I went to a florist and started looking through their portfolio books. Plus, you wouldn't book them or give them a deposit until you've spoken with them at length and determined they can do what you want.

That said, if your wedding is not until July of next year, you do still have plenty of time. I think we booked ours around 5 months out. Most florists are able to do multiple weddings on the same day, so there's less of a chance of them all being totally booked vs. a photographer, for example.

Start by looking for local florists to where you're getting married and look at their websites, facebook pages, instagrams, google reviews. It's never too early to meet when them and see if they can create what you have in mind!

I didn’t have specific ideas about my flowers until I meet with a florist. What you do need to know are the main colors of your wedding! I met with 3 florists before I found the perfect one. I started the process about 6 months before my wedding. As someone else mentioned, typically florists can accommodate more than one event per day so your chances of no availability are slimmer than with other vendors.

I agree with this! They might be able to help you figure our your floral visions! Definitely wouldn't hurt to go now, even if you go to a consultation just to explore ideas and make that clear from the start so there is no pressure to start putting down deposits or whatever.
