When to ask bridal party?

Jayden, on May 28, 2025 at 9:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 3
I was just wondering when how soon is TOO soon to ask your bridal party? I just got engaged this past Sunday (eek!), and I am so excited to ask people to be my bridesmaids. I know the typical time is between 8-12mo. Our date isn’t until 10.22.27, so a little over 2 years away, but I am just so excited. I feel like you get engaged, people are excited that day, and then no one cares anymore but I want to celebrate lol! All but one of my bridesmaids are family, so I know the relationships won’t change. Would 2yrs in advance be WAY too soon? Be honest, I’m just excited never thinking I’d ever get married😂 tyia!

Great you have been surprised with a wedding engagement. That makes the engagement all the more special. It still helps to wait to select bridesmaids since you might be in some new social circles and could have a new friendship that is also meaningful to you. Or someone in the family may have a changed situation that makes that person unavailable. Then you would have to decide how to adjust for that.

Two years seems a little soon, I would wait to ask wedding party until around either a year or a year and a half before the wedding. Congratulations on your engagement!!

I would also wait until a year out before asking. Let this time be about you and your fiancé, not others. Go ahead and make it all about you (two).
