When should you go dress shopping?

L, on June 25, 2020 at 8:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I’m getting married July 31, 2021. When should I start dress shopping?

I've found a dress that I love at David's Bridal that's on sale for $99, and I'm tempted just to buy it and see if I actually love it IRL, but still shop. Does that make sense to do? https://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_pressed-flower-tulle-a-line-wedding-dress-ms251190

That’s such a steal! If you love it and can afford to look at other dresses go for it!

That's definitely what I was thinking! And I can also use a coupon code for 15% off, which will bring the cost down to $84.15 which is incredible!

That’s amazing! Are you sure about your size? I would double check their size chart

I'd definitely recommend starting to look at dresses now, even if it's just looking at dresses online or trying on different styles in a store, so that you can get an idea of what you like/don't like. Have fun and good luck with dress shopping!!

I tried dresses on at DB a few months ago, right after getting engaged, not to buy, just to try, and I'm an 8. This dress runs large though, and 8 is sold out, so I'm not sure if I should buy a 6 or a 10.

I’d size up before I’d size down. It’s easier to take a dress in than it is to let it out.

True. Although I've lost probably 7lbs since then, and am losing more as we speak lol. And I'm not doing it for the wedding, it's just a nice side effect of a new medication lol.

Well I can say from experience. I started dress shopping late October last year and I am getting married November this year. I was in love with the dress I picked out (I just wanted to try on different styles and was not expecting to buy so early. I started to get dress regret early and I ending up exchanging it. I will say that dress being $99 is a steal so get it and worse case scenario you could always get a new one. Each bride is different. Some get theirs a year early and it is fine and some, like me lol, get it early and question if they got the right dress. Difference between you and me is that my dress was $800 so going somewhere else was out but it was fine. DB let me exchange for my current dress which I am in love with and with the difference in price I was able to get a lot of nice extras. Smiley smile That dress is nice though.

I’m thrifty enough to say go for. You still have the 7 or 14 days (whatever the policy is) to return it if you don’t love it once you try it on, but it definitely won’t be available much longer. I only just got engaged 8 months before the wedding. Really it could’ve been shorter but he talked me into waiting until October, and I guess with COVID, it’s a good thing I listened. But if you do decide to get it and you decide you love it, I would advise you to stop looking at other dresses, I think we can become indecisive and give ourselves dress regret over nothing.

My wedding isn’t until next November and I already have my dress. I wouldn’t wait much longer though, as most places advise that you get your dress about 9 months to a year before your wedding to allow for time to get it in and altered.
