My opinion is that as soon as you get engaged the saving should begin if the savings are not already there. As to when to start planning that depends on if you feel you are in a position to pay for the wedding that you want as well as where you are located. For instance in the DMV (DC/MD/VA) area many of the venues get booked a year in advance along with the most desired photographers, videographers, and wedding coordinators.

Do the research on your area on the area where you wish to marry. Talk to bride-to-bes that you know and/or previous brides in your area. If you can get a free consultation with a wedding planner too that would be great.

Good luck and happy planning. :-)

Start saving now!! When you start planning will depend on your date, if you're getting married at a peak time (certain months depending on where you live and weekends) you'll want to try and book your location as soon as possible. Other than that I wouldn't really start doing 'proper' planning (ie. any more than pinterest ideas) before about a year to go, I'm having an 8 month engagement and I'm so tired of wedding planning already!

I agree with the others. BUT I would advise setting up a special savings account for wedding expenses ( was the vacation fund, now wedding fund and is a secondary savings account). Start putting a set amount in there every payday. Research venues near you and figure out what you can spend. Come up with a ballpark guest list. I really liked one venue I saw online and looked at cost (holy shit!) and then guest count was only 100. Um too small. Next... Best of Luck and Congrats on the engagement.

June wedding? I'd say when you are about 10 Smiley smile

anyway, IMO I think the best thing to do is start saving as soon as possible, then talk about what kind of wedding you want. then I'd start looking for venues. that seems to be what needs to be booked as early as possible and seems to take a lot of the budget. once you've got a idea of how much room you have, what it will cost to book, and if the rules allow for you to bring in a cake or you own drink, then you can see what you can spend in other areas.

I think making a list of what is most important to you is a good idea. if having it in a certain church is essential, start there.

myself, as long as I had the dress of my dreams I was fine with a wedding in a pretty backyard or a living room. though I am very excited about my venue Smiley smile

If you're in a rush, you could pull something together for June of this year.

June of 2015 should easily be possible.

If you want a very expensive wedding and need time to save, shoot for June 2016.

    Start saving now.

Don't get your heart set on a venue until you're able to put down a deposit.

Your guest list effects your budget the most, so put together a # and then start saving now. My wedding is 150$ per guest, not including our attire

I would definitely say start saving now. Since you want a June wedding I think you should begin your hunt for venues as soon as possible since this is the most popular wedding month.

We started saving right when we got engaged (late January 2014). We knew what venue we wanted already (I was a florist, and he used to drive deliveries for us so we got to scope out many places beforehand). Our venue was booked for the date we wanted (May 30, 2015), so that's how we came up with the June date. It also helps to kinda do some "pre-planning" in order to get an idea on how much you should budget. I had no idea how much cakes, DJs, photgraphy, etc. costs. Now that I know, that really helps us to know what we should budget for.
