We had the date picked before the formal proposal but planning and viewing venues didn't happen until after the proposal. But get all the inspiration you want.

We were engaged for over 6 months before he proposed. We decided, together, that we wanted to get married and when. At that point, we were engaged. We booked our venue before the actual proposal.

But that's what worked for our relationship. If you haven't seriously talked about marriage and just assume he's proposing in February, it's too early to plan. Likewise, if you won't consider yourself officially engaged until he proposes, hold off on the planning.

There's planning and there's Planning. Talking about size, budget, locations (home town vs. new city vs. destination) all makes sense to talk about now. Touring venues, dress shopping, talking to parents, that I would all wait for.

You don't need a ring to be engaged. If you have decided together to get married, you are engaged.

DH and I talked about getting married all the time. We talked about rings, what kind of wedding we wanted, etc. I didn't know when he was going to propose, but I knew it was coming because we went ring shopping together to look. I didn't consider us engaged until he asked me to marry him (ring or no ring). But before the actual proposal, I was browsing venues online and had a Pinterest board of flowers, dresses, etc.

Please wait until you are actually engaged.

I never even thought about a wedding or planning shit until I actually got a ring. I think its pretty weird to be planning on something your not even sure if going to occur.
