When should I send out bridal shower invites?

I was at FH family party on Saturday and his aunts were asking me when the shower was. I said August 9th from 12-4. Then my FMIL said I should start sending out invites soon so people will keep that day free. I said I believe it's a too early to send out invites and got a dirty look bad. I didn't want to make a big deal of the dirty look because she offered to give my mom money for the shower.

am I wrong? How far in advance are you sending out bridal shower invites? It's a slow day at work so I getting all my questions out today lol.

Woah, sending out the invites for your shower is NOT your job. Very poor taste to do so. Somebody not you can send out STD's in email or Facebook if they want. I would say 1 month in advance for official invites.

First of all, it is not YOUR job to send out invites, that's the first thing you should've said to FMIL! Whoever is hosting (your mom?) sends them and FMIL, unless she is the host, doesn't get input to that. Its definitely WAY too early to send out shower invites for a shower in August!! They should be sent about a month before the shower - maybe 4-5 weeks.

No, I know by now that's a no no ha ha. I did buy blank invitations at Officemax when they were moving and going to help my moh design them.

I'd say June. Aug 9th would be a popular weekend to have plans. I'd imagine lots of back to school trips with the kids for some people. I'd say June would be a good time to send invites. Maybe send out an email just saying heads up on the shower. Mine will be during a holiday weekend so more of the BMs will be in town, as soon as everything is set I plan on sending out all dates via email or group FB message.

@annakay511- that's what I thought too. Sometimes I get so many opinions from my family on when to do stuff I get so confused.

Sorry I meant my mom. She is throwing me the shower with help from fmil. I will probably help with decorations and getting the invitations ready. My mom doesn't know how to do that and I'm looking forward to that.
