When should i send Invites??

Marisha, on May 7, 2020 at 7:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

So I'm originally from The Bahamas, but my fiance and I live in the US and that's where the Wedding will be. My entire family still lives in The Bahamas so naturally, 50% of our guests will have to travel to the US.

Anyway to the point..... my sister believes we should send out our invites this coming August for our Wedding in May 2021. She says that this gives everyone back home enough time to prepare, take time off and all that, but i honestly think its WAY too early!

By the end of the year I feel most of them would have lost their invitations or simply have changed their minds? I was thinking to send 'Save the Dates' in August and invites closer to the end of the year.

I don't know I just needed another opinion on this. what do you guys think?

I would send save-the-dates at least 9 months before the wedding and invites around 8-12 weeks before your day.

I had half of my guests flying in (5+ hour each way) and the other half had to drive around 2 hours each way. So I sent out my save-the-dates 10 months before our wedding. Because our wedding was in February and the holidays were right before it, we sent out our invites 12 weeks beforehand since we knew it would get lost in the shuffle of holiday cards and holiday madness if we stuck to 8 weeks.

I agree with PP. Our wedding is on the West Coast. My FH family lives on the East Coast and my family lives in France. We sent STDs in January for our December wedding.
I was planning on sending invites early September.

You can send out save the dates 6 months or so ahead of time to give guests a heads up. But the actual invites aren't sent out until 6-8 weeks before the wedding with a couple weeks gap in between to tally replies and touch base on anyone who didn't reply to get numbers for your caterer.
