When should i book the photographer?

Amy, on February 15, 2018 at 1:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

My wedding isn't until June 2019 and I'm not sure when to start looking. My FH and I went to a wedding expo a few weeks ago, and all the photographers there were booked up for our date! But when I looked online they said about 9 months out. When did you book yours? Is it too soon?

Photographer's are something you want to book sooner rather then later - a lot of the best ones can book up to two years in advance. We started looking in may of 17 for our September 18 wedding and a lot of them were booked already and that was over a year to go. I would definitely start calling and speaking to people to book soon.

I booked all vendors within a month of booking my venue. They book almost as far out as venues especially the good ones.

I don't think it is too soon to book a photographer. We had a shorter engagement, and many were already booked nine months before our wedding date. It doesn't hurt to start looking and booking someone if you love their work.

Definitely not too early. We're getting married two months after you and we booked our photographer back in November.

Book as soon as you find someone you love! It's not too early, and if people are already getting booked up for your date, you need to jump on it now. Photography and entertainment tend to book out the furthest in advance.

My wedding is in 11 months, and I paid the deposit today for our photographer, though he is the last vendor we had to book.

I booked mine early January and my wedding is in July. You might want to book it early because they might have a very busy schedule.

Once we had the venue and date, photographer was the first vendor we booked. June is a busy month for weddings, you should definitely be looking.

My personal rule of thumb has been to book the vendors in order of how much time they spend with us on the day. Photographers tend to only do one wedding in a day, so it's best to lock them in asap.

I completely ignored the timelines, because if I had followed them I'd be SOL with hiring who I wanted. We had our photographer booked in April 2017 for our wedding, which is October of this year.

Random other information that may help
    Venue- booked January 2017
    Officiant- booked December 2017
    Make-up artist- booked October 2017
    Hair- booked January 2018
Hotel block- set up in September 2017 (getting married on a holiday weekend in a touristy area due to fall foliage, and 70% of the hotels were already completely booked)

I booked my photographer 10 months out and a lot I had contacted already had our date booked. My wedding planner told me the important things to book super far out are venue, catering, photographer, dj, and hair and makeup. As those are the services that book up really far in advance. Things like rentals and decor are stuff that you can take more time on.

Never too early! I started planning 2 years in advance, ended up going through 3 different photographers just for the engagement pictures, until we found one who actually followed through and we love.
It's now 3 months until the wedding and I only have little things to finish up. All the big decisions have been made, and i can relax for the most part until the week of!

Definitely not too early! I'm also getting married in June 2019, and we booked our photographers in early January. We booked our venue, which includes F&B in November. If it helps, I'm trying to book a florist, DOC, cake baker, DJ, officiant, and videographer by June/July 2018. I figure the more vendors I have booked earlier, the more time I can relax right before the wedding!

We are June 2019 and we booked ours November 2017. If we had waited an extra week, he would have been booked for our date. It only take one person to book your date for it to be gone, and popular photographers are booking 2 years ahead!
