When Should i Book Photography?

Kylee, on July 17, 2020 at 7:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

So this Fall will mark 2 years until my wedding and I've heard many people tell me to book early due to the fact that many people will be booking in 2021 and 2022 early because of COVID postponing 2020 weddings. My wedding is planned to happen in the middle of October of 2022, so when would be the best time to book the photography for my wedding?

If you know who you want as your photographer, their books are open for 2022, and you have a venue locked in, I’d say go for it! I knew exactly who I wanted as my photographers, so I hired them as soon as we booked our venue (about 22 months in advance). It was nice as I was able to lock in their 2018 rates instead of the new 2020 rates!

I would say a few months out! This person you book can be used for your engagement pictures...that will help knowing if you like how he or she take pictures. To me you have sometime

I think if there’s someone having specials and they’re popular and open for 2022 dates then you could go ahead and book now anyway. Like pp said you could use them for engagement photos later

October is one of the most popular months. I'll reiterate what I said on your other post: book all vendors that are important to you asap. Makeup, dresses, etc wait until 10-12 months out

We booked our photographer about 6 months out from the wedding.

I booked my photographer just under two years before the wedding because it was very important to me to get who I wanted. October is the most popular fall month for weddings, if not the busiest month for weddings of the year (at least in New England), so if you have someone in mind, talk to them now. If you want to look around a bit and get a feel for things, you have some time, but I wouldn’t wait too long. When I booked my photographer in January she already had almost all of October 2021 booked.

I recommend starting to talk to photographers now, though you don't necessarily need to rush to book one. You can always do engagement photos with one first as a trial to see how the pictures turn out, and if you like them, book the photographer for your wedding. Otherwise, if you find one you like, book them before someone else does!

We ended up booking our photographer about 26 months before our wedding In November 2019 for January 2022. We we’re necessarily planning on booking one yet, but we found one we loved and she was running a holiday sale. So I’d say it doesn’t hurt to start researching and if you find one you’re certain you want to be your photographer, book it! Good luck!
