When should I book my florist?

SoonToBeSalazar, on July 2, 2016 at 4:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi there! My fiancee and I are in the midst of planning our wedding for October of 2017. I was wondering how far out should I start booking our florist? We are on a really tight budget so we want to get things done early so that we can plan accordingly we were just unsure about when to start looking. Also how do you go about booking your flowers? What kind of questions should keep in mind during our search?

Thank in advance for all your suggestions!

I don't know the recommended timeline for a florist search but we booked ours a few months before our wedding.

You should meet with the florist, be up front about your budget, your colours, what exactly you are looking to include (boutonieres for parents, bridesmaid bouquets, throwing bouquet, flower girls, etc.). They will be able to make recommendations for seasonal flowers and alternatives in your colours that would look good together. Our florist blew us away, tried to get a sense of what styles we liked, and what was within our price range.

Our wedding is in July 2017 and we actually just put the deposit down for our florist yesterday. They said they usually have openings up to 2 months before the wedding however I felt that the 50 dollar deposit was worth it to put down now so I have no worries that close to the wedding. I say if you have an idea on what florist you want and they will take a deposit or will secure the date go for it now or in a few months!

Check with the florist in your area. Because I needed just a small amount, the florist recommended I return in the summer. I just booked mine for our October wedding.

I booked about 7 months in advance but am only having a 9 month engagement. It was one of the first things I booked.

I'm glad someone posted this. I guess I should contact the florist soon for our November wedding!

I'd start looking now, honestly. Most of the people I'm talking to for next Oct. have at least met with florists already.

Thanks everyone for you input! I had no idea that when to start thinking about that stuff. We have our venue, photographer, and caterer done so far. I just didn't know what the next step should be or when to start looking for more vendors.
