When Should Bridesmaids Order Dresses?

Tiffany, on September 8, 2019 at 8:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hey everyone! April 2020 bride here! I have 5 bridesmaids, a junior bridesmaid, and a flower girl. 3 of 5 bridesmaids are in different states because of college. Because of this I am 95% sure I want to use Azazie since there isn't going to be a way for most/any of us to go dress shopping together. When should I have them start looking or order? With Azazie I see that you can "rent" dresses and have them mailed to you for 7 days to try on and then send back. Should I just go ahead and tell them about the website now so they have lots of time to look and decide and try some on? I mean I'm thinking maybe definitely by Christmas/New Years we should have choices locked down, if not already ordered. What are your thoughts? Am I on a good track here?

All my girls did Azazie. I think it’s fine to send them the dress info now but I wouldn’t give them a deadline. Their production time is 3 weeks and I had several girls order a month before my wedding and it was fine.

The azazie website says 5 weeks for production and shipping. My girls just ordered on sept 3 and got a shipping estimate of oct 3. You can do the sample dresses where you pay $10, they ship it to you, try it on, and ship it back prepaid within a week. You can also create a “showroom” on the app with the dresses you like and then you invite your girls can view and order from there. That saves confusion on color, fabric, styles. They say everyone has to order within 24 hours to keep the fabric in the same dye lot but I’ve also heard there’s no difference in the way it looks.

This. Our girls have had the site since February, but we’re 2.5 months out and a few of them are just getting around to ordering. I’m not concerned since their turnaround time is fairly quick.

Thank you for your advice! That's really helpful. I'm glad to have reassurance on how quick the company is. I mean I have a shorter engagement and I know a lot of these girls have busy lives with college and things. I was trying to find a balance between not letting it get forgotten about til the last minute but also not making them feel like I'm rushing through the planning process because I do still have 7 months.

Yes, I was excited when I heard about the sample dresses. I think it will be really helpful. Did your girls do the sample dresses? I thought I remembered reading that when you mailed the dresses back it had to be with fedex or a certain mailing company? That's one thing I've been worried about, I guess I need to research it more and make sure that since my girls are all in different areas that they have access to the proper places to mail the dresses back in time so they don't get charged more.

I totally understand. I’ve been a bridesmaid 14 times and had 10 bridesmaids in my own wedding and I’ve never seen a girl not get a dress by the day of the wedding. I think planning a wedding is stressful enough and it’s best to let adults be adults rather than try to micromanage when they order their dress!

They didn’t do the sample dresses, but I did just to make sure I liked the company. I took it to fedex, just put it in the box it came in and put the prepaid label on it.

I think its good to give some sort of a dress order deadline. Things can skip people’s minds easily. I asked my girls to order by the end of September for my December wedding. Just over 2 months out.

Daughter ordered sample BM dresses. The $10 charge covers both delivery and return shipping. I forget who the carrier was, but it was very easy. The dresses for try-on come really nicely packaged in a garment bag and then in a cardboard box that the folded bag fits in perfectly. Azazie is the BEST! Also, I think they might have a Black Friday sale/discount. Keep in mind the production schedule gets a bit longer during peak ordering times (like after Black Friday), but even with that they'll come PLENTY early for April. Four of daughter's five BM's did custom sizing and they either didn't need any alterations or really minor things (like shortening the straps). Azazie offers an alterations credit on custom-sized dresses, too! Her girls ordered on July 1, and the dresses were delivered on the same day to five different states exactly 4 weeks later! Good luck! Smiley heart

I just let them know I want a lavender and long dress for my bridesmaids and they can pick every other aspect. I sent them two to three websites with ones I like. I trust them to order in time. I would not give any kind of deadline.

I used Azazie. I sent them the dress information 14 months out (color, length, fabric). 3 girls used the "at home try on" $10 option then ordered, the rest just ordered. It was nice they had so much notice because they got to take advantage of 10% and 15% off sales. One bridesmaid ordered as early as 10 months out and one as late as 3 months out. Typical production time is 3 weeks with up to 10 days for shipping, but during busy season it can go up to 4-5 weeks so just keep an eye on that. I told my girls to order by 3 months prior.

I was really happy with Azazie and would choose them again! When Should Bridesmaids Order Dresses? 1

I'm getting married in April as well and going with Azazie as 4 of 6 of them live out of state as well and I had a good experience with Azazie for a friend's wedding.

I've already given my ladies the color, length, and material for them to browse which dresses they may want. I've been trying to figure out the best timeline as well and figure I'll see if everyone's good ordering them by Jan/Feb at the latest. The only reason I'd give a deadline is if they don't like the style they chose and need to re-order, that's another 3-4 week production time and also, if they don't go for the custom sizing then they need to give themselves enough time to get their dresses hemmed/altered.
