When should bridesmaids have their dresses by?

Caitlin, on June 26, 2017 at 2:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hey guys quick question.

I just asked my bridal party to...be my bridal party and I was wondering when I should tell them to have their dresses by? I realize I am a hair early in asking them and it is definitely early for them to buy a dress but for them it will be a destination wedding as I am in Florida and they are in Indiana and I would like to give them plenty of time to get things in order financially and give them an idea about when they should have their stuff together. Thanks!

I would say start looking at the end of August/beginning of September. Try to avoid asking them to purchase close to the holidays, that time of year is stressful enough.

I would say they should be in their possession at the latest 30 days before your wedding . That gives time for alterations which shouldn't be too major for bridesmaids. 6 weeks would give a little more wiggle room.

I agree with Kate - check with the vendor! Some places have "busy seasons" that slow things down. Best of luck!

Thanks guys! I definitely wouldn't want to stress them out and I'm trying to make it as chill as possible especially since I won't be able to go dress shopping with them. I plan on just giving them a color and a length and letting them have free reign from there. I just want them to be comfortable haha.

I would say they should order them no later than January for your april wedding. But I am also an over achiever, so they probably won't need them so early lol

If you are just giving them a color and a length, I wouldn't specify a deadline they have to have it by. As long as they show up with it in their hands or on their body by the wedding day, that's all that matters. It's not relevant to you whether they have it hanging in their closet by this weekend or if they go out and buy it at Nordstrom the night before the wedding.

You need to find out how long production and shipping will take from the place you are ordering them from. My wedding is the beginning of October and I asked mine to have their dresses ordered by July 1 (so this Saturday) from Azazie. Other places may take longer.

    The wedding.

Look, I've been in several weddings and picked up my BM dresses the week of the wedding. One needed major alterations. It wasn't a big deal, I dealt with it. Tell your girls what dress you want them to get, or even better give them a colour and style and stand back.

@JessieJV that's kind of how I felt but I didn't know if I should giving them a deadline since I'm not really having anything to do with the actual dress shopping. Also never been in a wedding party and only have been to one wedding before so I didn't really have much to go on with this haha. Thanks!

From my own experience, giving them a length and color is not always easier for everyone. I did this and regretted it due to one difficult bridesmaid. At her request, I picked a few dresses from retailers that let you try on and return (department stores, bhldn) in addition to the Azazie dresses I had chosen. She then could not find ANY dress she liked. (FH's sister) I would pick a few styles from a retailer like Azazie or David's and then give them the "order by" date the retailer suggests.

My wedding date is the day after yours. I was told by bridal salon to order sometime in August to be on the safe side, just in case something were to go wrong.... hope this helps!!

My bridesmaids ordered their dresses from David's bridal in November. We didn't get the last one in until the 1st of May. Then I was told to have 4 weeks for alterations for bridesmaids and 6 weeks for the bride. Hope this helps!

It really depends on if you are having them order the dresses from a specific shop, or having them just buy a dress from a store that meets specific criteria. If it is a shop, you need to call them and ask questions. If you are having them but something from what store they choose, you do not need to give a deadline.

Make sure you look at the bridal shop or online, how long it takes to get in. My girls ordered theirs and it takes two months to come in! Then there's alterations
