When is too early for invitations???

We've already got invitations and the plan was to send them out really early so that family/friends travelling from far(which are many) will have time to plan their trip. But now I've been reading articles that we shouldn't send them out until 8 weeks before??? I was going to send them out A YEAR...

So when is just TOO early?

If possible, id like to avoid the extra cost of getting save-the-dates now.

FH's side of the family lives in Ohio so all of them plus a few members from my side will be traveling. We decided on Save the dates and actually sent them out a few weeks ago so they would have a heads up and start planning on coming down if they are. We are also sending the invitations out in the beginning of August again to remind them but IMO I wouldn't send them out a year in advance. I would misplace them or lose them just like the other ladies have said.

We are going to send out invites about 4-6 months before due to everyone (well, 95.3% of our guests) coming from other states....but at about 9 months out, we will send out a save the date with our wedding website and such on it (magnet style...so easier to keep) and that way, people can check out the site and keep informed, figure out travel plans and such.

I'm emailing save the dates, I think it's a good alternative to spending money on them. I bought invites really early too because everything was set in stone with no going back haha. But I'm not sending them out until probably like Oct/Nov.

We are going to do StD's because almost everyone coming to the wedding on my side will be coming from OOT/State/Country. I will send them probably this October then do formal invites two months out.

If you need VIP guests to know when your wedding is, then what you want is a save-the-date. However, you don't need to actually go out and buy fancy cards or post-cards. You can just call up a person and say, "Hey, just wanted to let you know that we've picked a wedding date! It's July 25th of next year!" Or email.

The thing with invitations is that you should be sending them all out at the same time, and with a few VERY notable exceptions, you cannot uninvite people. So you'd basically have to decide a year in advance who to invite to your wedding. So if you make any new friends within that year, or if you have a falling out with someone, or you take a look at your budget closer to the wedding and realize you don't have enough money to host all those people and you need to make cuts, you're stuck.

I sent my save the dates 10 months before and my invitations 4-5 months early. I was so excited to get the ball rolling. I heard criticism about it, people teased me that "they never received a wedding invitation that early before". In addition to being excited, I wanted people to make arrangements to be there and I thought the only way was to send them in the new year. Twelve weeks seems really close to me. I want to have things done by then.

Our wedding is in July of this year. Our whole guest list will be traveling. So I sent mine out in batches. First batch was sent mid march, second batch was mailed out by beginning of April and I had them respond back by May 8. Cause there will be late response cards coming in after the date you set up. It's easier to get that head count as early as you can than closer to the date.

I would send them a few months before. People might lose them if you send them a year in advance.

Go to vistaprint and make save the dates on business cards. their like $10 for 250.

Our wedding is July 25th of this year. I did send save the dates with hotel information on them. Our wedding is in a resort town in Wisconsin in the middle of summer, and on a Friday evening. Everyone including us are driving at least 5 hours. I have been told by friends that even sending them out now is too early, yet I feel people need to figure out their travel plans. If I send invites out now it's 11-12 weeks out. I don't see that as early but some do. I think a year is wayyyyy to early. Std are fine at this time.
