When do you tell your NEW employer you need time off for the wedding??

I just came across a situation that I really didn't see myself being in until after the wedding. Where I work now I've been there for 2+ years, even though I love the people I work with, what I do and overall everything, I knew I had to look for another job after the wedding. I just came across a situation that I really didn't see myself being in until after the wedding. Where I work now I've been there for 2+ years, even though I love the people I work with, what I do and overall everything, I knew I had to look for another job after the wedding. We are moving up north from where I currently live now and commute is 1hr, after we move I'm looking about 2hrs, and to be honest it wouldn't be worth it. (My current job knows I'll be leaving and have my back 100%) I got a call today for pretty much my dream job and it'd be 15 min away from where we'll be moving, problem is...when would I tell my potential new employer I need time off for my honeymoon?? Interviews tomorrow!! Wish me luck ladies!!

Ugh I'm also in HR and please don't bring up personal details, asking about vacation policies once you begin negotiating is perfectly okay. Once in negotiation I would say you'll need 5 vacation days in the month of ___ for a planned trip, I'll be willing to take these unpaid and just want to know your policy. NOT in the interview. Some are nice and some aren't. Don't risk it if it's your dream job. As messed up as it is one of my friends started taking off her wedding band even for job interviews and would get more offers since women in the workplace still unfortunately have a stigma that all we want to do is pop out babies and get maternity leave. Good luck and keep us updated!!!!!

I went through the same thing. I did not bring up needing time off during the interview but people saw my ring and so the wedding was brought up. When the verbal offer was extended, I told her I needed the days- she said as long as you know they will be unpaid. I said sure and here I am working. I wouldnt wait until your first day and say oh , by the way. I got the job in September and wedding was November.

My employer now knew I was getting married before he hired me, but he didn't know specifics. I was on staff and into my first week or so at work when I emailed him to let him know the dates. It was well in advance. I was hired in September 2013, and our wedding wasn't until May 2014.

I think it depends on the company that's interviewing you. I personally expect people to ask about vacation policy during the interview, and I'd rather know as soon as possible that someone needs time off. Definitely no later than when you have your offer, since your wedding is fairly soon after you'd be hired.
