When Do You Take Off Your Veil?

Audrey, on October 8, 2020 at 12:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26
Hi ladies!!!

9 days out!!!! (YAYYYYY!!!!!!) and in my process of throwing myself into everything to make sure it's completed, I realized--I have no idea when I'm supposed to take my veil off.....do you do your first dance with it on? Is it tacky to leave on through dinner? It's a fingertip, so it's not super long. Any advice or ideas???

It’s not tacky to keep it on. I’ve seen people keep on their veils all night if they aren’t the super super long ones like cathedral length. Fingertip veils are great to keep on because no one will step on them. I personally am taking mine off right after pictures and before our entrance to the reception. Basically the same time we are bustling the dress.

Ooo thank you Kimberly!!! That makes me feel better. That's a good idea, too, to take it off when bustling!

I normally see brides wear it until they are getting hot and heavy with the dancing.

I don't think there's any rule for when you have to take it off. Especially since this is your one chance to wear it, I'd say wear it until you don't feel like wearing it anymore (or you can always take it off and put it back on later for specific pictures).

No set "rule" that I have seen. However, most brides I have seen take it off after the first dance/parent dances. I took mine off after photos.

You can wear it however long you want. I had a chapel length veil and removed it after photos. No way I wanted to dance with it dragging behind me.

I was totally wondering this same thing! I also have a fingertip veil so I'm thinking I'll keep it on for pictures and then it will probably come off lol Smiley heart

It's really up to you. I had a fingertip length veil, and I took it off after the spotlight dances (very beginning of the reception). Even though it was shorter, it was still kind of annoying lol. Plus, I was in love with my hairstyle (braid with a hair vine), so I wanted to show it off lol.

    Hey Audrey,

We're not having a reception so I'll be taking mine off after we get done with all the picture taking. But even if we were having one, I would probably still take it off after the pics so I could dance dance dance

I’m planning to keep mine on through the whole reception. I’m changing dresses for the send off and I still want the veil on. It may come off in the car on the way to the cabin, but we’ll see. Mine is also fingertip and will be attached lower on the back of my head.

I kept mine on only for pictures after the ceremony, which is when we did most of our pictures. As soon as we hit the party bus I took it off! But mine was a cathedral length beaded veil that kept getting caught on the ground and other things. I really think it’s all personal preference. I wanted to get a few pictures without it as well, just for some extra variety.

I get that. My hair stylist, during my trial, pinned my veil under my hair, not how I originally envisioned it but it was beautiful that way for my bridal portraits. And because we’re putting the veil there, I’ve ordered a beaded sparkly vine to add to my hair for the big day.

It’s totally up to you. I had a finger tip length veil and I took it off directly after the ceremony.
