When do you get a marriage license

My wedding is on May 8th, and in a different state so we will be leaving May 2. I'm wondering when should we get a marriage license and how does it work? I'm mostly wondering because when making plans for the honeymoon everything said you can't change your name and must have a valid license that matches the name your signed up with (like rental car, airport). I guess my license doesn't have to be changed until we get back home, but will the marriage license interfere with any of that?

@C&S: unfortunately, it probably won't. the program in texas is called "two-gether in texas." it has to be a qualified workshop under that program. ... i could be wrong tho. i'd still ask.

Jenna about covered it for Texas. We got ours in Midland county it was $82. And we are getting married in Tarrant. Our Officiant can handle the recording or we can bring it back to the courthouse and do it ourselves. I'm opting for that so the license doesn't get all bent in the mail.

We're getting married in SC and since marriage licenses don't have an expiration date there, we'll get it while we're there in August, about 2 months before the wedding.
