My wedding is in october of this year. Our first meeting with the dj is this spring....then we will be meeting with him a few weeks before to finalize all the music details.

The 1st and only time we met with our DJ before the wedding was when we booked him, about 4 or 5 months before the wedding. a few weeks before the wedding i sent him our "must play" list along with a list of song we wanted played during certain events (cake cutting, first dance, etc.). everything went really smoothly for us considering we didn't do an actual face-to-face meeting right before the wedding!

As a DJ, I strongly recommend that you meet before you book. By talking through your vision of the wedding, you and the DJ can explore if the services being offered are aligned with your expectations and set the desired mood of the wedding. At least one month before the wedding, I suggest that you finalize the agenda and special song selections. In my experience, most mistakes happen when last minute changes are made and communications are missed during the few hectic days before the wedding. Some of the requested songs may not be mainstream or popular, and some lead time may be necessary to acquire them. Also beware of unethical DJ companies. For example, see Fox 5 TV News report about DJ company scams. See:
