When do people usually purchase gifts

Aussie Bride, on January 20, 2010 at 4:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Okay so there is only about two weeks till the wedding and I just checked out our wedding registry and only one thing has been purchased. Everything we registered for was from bed bath and beyond and we have asked people to purchase online so we could pick it up from the store near us since the wedding is in a different state and we dont want to have to try and pay to mail everything here. I now have this fear that his family are all going to ignore what we have asked for and just chooose whatever they want or that they wont do anything since we are already technically married however we never had an engagement party bridal shower or anything. Im just a bit worried now we have everything else we need in our home and this was all the things we havent gotten yet like decent cookware and things

Ok so funny. This happened to me too. OK FINE CALL ME A SNOB! But I checked it and kept thinking, is anyone ever going to buy us something? I think a lot of people buy the day of the wedding, everyone seems to be a procrastinator. If people don't like the idea of purchasing online you may just end up getting gift cards and/or money, which is great too.

They are probably just waiting until the last minute (a lot of people don't do things early) or giving you gifts cards, or money! =) They will bring gifts....no worries. =)

Also, I have been sneaking peeks at my registery since my shower is coming up and only one person has bought something so far...I was really excited when someone bought something though! Its kind of like peeking at Christmas gifts. =)

I have checked it so many times and only one thing has been purchased. I dont mind gift cards but my husband has already said he hopes its not money because his family are likely to do like $10 or $20 not that im a snob or anything but this is a wedding and I do know he'll get angry since his brothers wife got a bridal shower thrown for her with lots of gifts and then lots of gifts at the wedding. I just hope people are respecting our wishes for what we actually want and arent going to turn up with a bunch of useless things that ill have to return and end up with a bunch of gift cards for walmart which we definately dont want. I even have gift cards on the registry and no one has done that either

Aussie, I felt the same way when I was getting married and for my baby shower. I wanted to know what people were getting me. I'm thinking you may get a lot of gift cards or people are not scanning your registry and will bring the gift with them. At my wedding, my friends from college and younger guests knew how to scan the registry which helped me see what they were purchasing. As for the older guests, they bought what my husband and I asked for but they did not have it scanned off of the registry. Gratefully, we received everything we asked for and gift cards. Trust me, you will be so into your husband, enjoying your wedding, and so tired at the end you will not want to look at those gifts because somebody has to put them in the car. Smiley smile We didn't open our gifts until 2 days later.

You might be getting a lot of money, especially if everyone knows you guys are struggling with paying for the wedding, among other things. I was surprised that a lot of people gave us gifts but only two months after the wedding. Some ppl have not given us anything yet. A lot of ppl are procrastinators and maybe ppl are having a harder time in this economy than they let on or are just cheap or rude. I don't know. It is weird because it made me think that they wanted to check out how fancy or good our wedding or meal was first, then they decided to give us a gift? But many ppl were generous with us on that day. And well in the end, I should not count on gifts or anything.

I honestly hope they dont bring them to the wedding the wedding is in Kansas and we live in California. We fly out the day after the wedding and the last thing I want to deal with is pay a fortune to ship everything which is why we asked people to purchase online so we could pick it up from our local store.

They probably will give you cash then...our wedding was out of town and ppl didn't want us to carry the stuff back and then ppl get worried about sending checks in the mail and put it off until they see you again...it's kinda crazy too. I'm not used to American culture either. In my culture, ppl give checks or cash in the money box the day of the wedding.

Well, my fear is also people ignoring it, BUT I think people lookon registries and then go out to another store and buy something the same or simular to whats on the registry, my reason for this is because when I check my cousins registry before her shower, alot was bought, even a coffee maker, then at the wedding, she got another large coffee maker, then a smallerone, so I think they ended up with 2 or three..lol But no worries, people wait till the last minute, even go into the store the day before or day of!

Julybride I hope thats whats happening. Mrs Schmidt our big fear was people would see the things we want then go to walmart and get the cheap version which would be really upsetting since we want to get good quality for once. I even said on there these are the only things we want and we are happy for people to put in together for things that were out of the budget for one person

My bridal shower was on a Sunday and I know for a fact people were buying things the day before - my FMIL was one of them and ran into other people there. So they are probably just waiting.

Some people also buy the gift after the wedding, especially people that arent able to make it to the wedding - I know that when FH and I couldnt make it to a friend's wedding this past summer, we didnt send a gift until after the wedding, because that was the only time we had to sit down and actually look through their registry.
