When do i postpone because of Covid-19?

We plan to get married on 1/2/2021. At what point should we make the decision on whether or not to postpone? We’ve already sent out Save the Dates, but no invitations yet.
Most of our family is from out of state and will have to travel. Several family members are also considered high risk, so I’m honestly very nervous. I know January seems far away still but I don’t want people to make travel plans and then have to cancel at the last minute.

We made our decision to postpone 6 weeks prior to our original date. I think around 2-3 months before your wedding is a good time to start having conversations about the situation, and I would make the decision by 6 weeks before your wedding at the absolute latest. So maybe reassess in October/November and see where things are. Since you have a lot of people from out of town, maybe try to make the decision by early/mid November? You could also let your guests know to not book anything nonrefundable at this time.

January 16th wedding here, we just made the decision to cut from 120ish people to 50 and are slowly starting to spread the word. We didn't want to buy things anticipating 120 to have to scramble and change things last minute. In addition, we don't know what will happen as the seasons change. I personally didn't want to postpone because we've already been together 7 years and engaged since October 2018.

If you're not willing to cut, you'll need to consider a postpone soon to make sure people don't put money into travel arrangements they can't keep.

Def come up with a plan B. We originally had planned 92 guests at a venue all inclusive and had to downsize to 7 guests in an outdoor garden ceremony with a reception at our apartment. It was stressful because we waited til the last minute to develop a plan B.

I would at the very least look at your contracts and check in with your vendors to see what their reschedule policies are, and devise a Plan B in the meantime.
