When did you first take your dress in for alterations?

Just seeing what the general time frame is for alterations? I just want to get my dress shortened and maybe add a bustle. How many months before did you/are you taking your dress in to get first alterations?

I took mine in about 2 months before because that's what they suggested when I first bought it.

My dress comes in in September. I'll probably try to get it before October is over. And take it in for alterations 5 months in advance.

My wedding is Oct 12. My alterations appointments are Aug 5, Aug 26 and Sept 23. (Could’ve been Sept 16 but I get back from my bachelorette trip the Mon before and told them I needed an extra week to drop the inevitable vacation weight gain!)

I have to bring mine in a bit earlier than usual but my dress is also being repaired since it is OTR and I’m considering one major change. The actual fit alterations will be 2 months before.

I would say atleast 3 months but depends on the season. Spring brides have to fight prom girls sometimes for spots lol but 3 or 4 months is a good time frame

Bought my dress in April, not due for alterations until October for December wedding. I'm not getting much done, just having the train taken in a little.

I think it depends where you go. The seamstress I'm working with wanted it 4-6 weeks from the wedding and she will have it back to me in 7-10 days.

Same, I did research and called the woman I knew I wanted to do the work! She had me come in for a first fitting in the end of April, second fitting was 2 weeks ago, and I’m going in again this week. So far she’s just been able to do hemming because there is so much dress! I’ll have to go in at least 2 or 3 more times I assume before I am scheduled to pick it up in the end of August.

My advice would be to make make sure you have your shoes when you first go in.

My wedding is 6/6/20. I have my dress. It needs a bustle, cups sewed in, straps shorten. I plan to start alterations in March.

I’ve been getting quotes from various tailors the last 2 weekends. Plan on finalizing true tailor this weekend and have my first fitting.

Wedding is August 10. Some seamstress are needing only 3 weeks, some 6 weeks in advance due to my dress length

I bought and received my dress in hand in November 2017. I waited until May 20, 2018 to take my dress in for alterations. It was done within a month in June and our wedding was in late September. So I received it 4 months before my wedding which meant I tried it on every day until.
I definitely had my fittings on the early side but I couldn't wait. My weight was stable, the fabric was stretchy all over lace that didn't need to line up after alterations, and it was a sheath dress.
Alteratiojs I had were pretty minimal— took the sides in, added a small bustle, and added cups.

Good luck! If your weight is stable and the whole process pretty predictable doesn't hurt to get earlier than later.

It depends on your bridal shop, the owner of my dress store is a seamstress so in house alterations means mid September for October 20th wedding is fine. My friend got her dress at David's bridal and it was more in advance than that.
