When Bridesmaids Go Bad!

Mandee, on November 8, 2011 at 5:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

So I just have to share this situation because I still can't even wrap my brain around it. My friend is getting married this Saturday. Originally, she had 3 bridesmaids including myself and her 2 cousins. Well, her 2 cousins ended up having conflicts with the date with an event they had already committed to so she had to replace them. So now the bridal party includes myself, another of her cousins and a friend that we went to high school with years ago.

Being the MOH, I gave her a bachlorette party this past Saturday. Well, the "friend" we went to high school with ended up RSVPing, but never showed. My friend has tried getting in touch with her ever since that night and still has had no luck. She is getting married in 4 days!!! So today I am at work and receive a text from my friend. It tells us the times to meet and such on Saturday and attached at the end it says, "_________ I really hope you're going to show up since I haven't been able to get in touch with you." con't...

So then I call my friend and she tells me this story... Apparently she called DB to see if this girl even ordered her dress. Come to find out, she never even ordered her dress! It was not listed under her name or my friend's. All that was listed under my friend's name was mine and her cousin's dress. But a lovely little thing she did buy was her own wedding gown, but no bridesmaid dress. So my friend totally threw her out of the wedding today. She texted and called and left a message telling her that she is no longer in the wedding. She was able to get a refund on the girl's make-up, but spent about $200 on her gifts and such. She is going to give them to her Mom since their names start with the same letter.

All I can say, how sorry do you have to be to treat someone like that?! To commit to being in a wedding and then totally bailing 4 days before you're supposed to be there?

My piece of advice would be this lades:

Do NOT put someone in your bridal party that you have not seen in 8 YEARS. We have not seen this girl since high school. My friend was anxious about having uneven numbers, but about a month ago a groomsmen backed out due to his Dad is dying. Totally acceptable reason. This girl, however, no reason has been given period. Make sure that your bridal party includes people you love and KNOW will support you on your big day. I hate my friend had to go through this, but at least now she knows how that girl is.

Good luck with your wedding plans! Smiley smile

Wow. That's awful, but good for your friend for booting her! Just cut the ties and enjoy her day! I had a friend that had a similar falling-out w/ a bridesmaid at the last minute. I don't know the whole story, but she made sure that girl didn't ruin her wedding. And she has no regrets!

Wow, that's really rude, inconsiderate, and awful. I am glad she booted her and everything worked out! What a terrible thing to have to go through the week before your wedding.

Wow Ashley that is a terrible situation, as the other ladies have stated it's good that she severed ties now before the wedding so that she can have the best wedding without worrying and stressing on the day!
