When are you allowed to unmask?

Michelle, on July 24, 2020 at 9:21 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 15
Curious to hear other brides and their venue’s rules in states that mandate masks. Can you tell me what state you’re in and when you’re not going to be wearing the mask?

My venue said I won’t need to wear one during my outdoor ceremony, special dances (no one near us on the dance floor), and eating/drinking. I need to ask if we need to wear it during speeches and cutting cake. Our order states exceptions to the mask rule is communicating to hearing impaired or if sitting down eating.

State of FL (The Keys specifically) says no masks needed during ceremony, picture taking and during eating / reception.

Also noted that the news stated they would not be actively monitoring and fining either.

We're very fortunate - we're having a sunrise wedding followed by brunch reception, no dances and no speeches planned. PURPOSELY.

Virginia currently requires masks inside all public buildings and they can only be removed while you are eating or drinking.
I haven’t looked to see if there were any special lines regarding weddings, but I have masks in my amazon cart for the guests just in case. And I plan on getting one made out of the alterations scraps.

I’m in CO. Masks are not required during our outdoor ceremony where we can easily spread out, while sitting at tables during social hour and reception, or during our first dance because we can maintain social distancing. Masks will be required during cake cutting because of the proximity to the food being served. I would assume not during toasts so the speaker can be understood, because social distancing can be maintained.

Same as PP, we purposefully (re)planned a brunch reception rather than dinner to eliminate the awkwardness or no dancing (not permitted due to COVID). Masks are required when people go inside to use the restroom, other than that, we will be outdoor and socially distanced with 20 people so if people want to wear a mask they can, but are not required to.

I am not sure what the rules are where I live in Texas (because this state doesn't give a crap about covid rules Smiley sad ) But we will be enforcing mask wearing as soon as they step foot in the venue. Our outdoor ceremony will probably be find to take them off if we are able to spread the chairs out. We won't wear them for the main pictures, but during our reception program when we walk around and talk to our guests as they eat, my FH and I will be wearing masks since our guests won't have theirs on during dinner. It's a difficult situation, but we are trying to make light of it with cute masks for our guests and thinking about how we will be laughing about this craziness when we are old and looking back at our wedding pictures.

I think what your venue is very similar to what mine is doing. Our venue is in Las Vegas, NV. They are requiring all guests to wear masks when walking around anywhere at the venue. Only when we eat and are taking pictures we are allowed to unmask.

We don't have a traditional venue for this year, so I don't have personal experience. The cake cutting usually involves some cake eating, so I wouldn't think masks would be required for that.

In PA, masks are required in all public spaces. My friend is getting married in November, and we won’t be wearing them while sitting at our tables and eating. Beyond that, everyone will have them. Her wedding, including ceremony, is entirely indoors.

I imagine being outside you don't need one unless close proximity to others if you spread tables out farther I am thinking won't need one they can be optional if each table is family/house holds. when mingle together then may require masks.

I would just space the speech giver out with the microphone so they can safely unmask. I didn't catch where these speeches would be made - outside or inside? If it's outside I think it's an even lower risk, If it's inside I would recommend the spacing be really good.
That's probably what we'll be doing for the indoor reception part.

I’m in FL and our wedding was last Friday. We had 50 guests. Our ceremony was outside and the reception was inside. Thankfully, our venue had no requirements and no one had to wear a mask and we could dance and proceed as normal. If our venue would’ve had all of those extensive rules, no doubt I would’ve postponed.
