When are spring and summer 2021 brides sending out their save the dates?

on August 5, 2020 at 6:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Hey all hope you are doing well!

I woke up and somehow my calendar says August and I can not believe how fast the months are breezing by, then it dawned on me that I need to collect addresses and send save the dates soon! (Trying not to get stressed)

This would have been a completely normal experience or I would have had a more concrete plan but COVID has made matters difficult. Us brides have the new added stressor of basically planning blind in a sense.

I was on a webinar about two months ago hosted by Desiree Adams on how to Pandemic proof your wedding. I asked her the question of when 2021 brides should send save the dates since the guest list can be reduced due to possible ongoing restrictions and she told me to trickle them out or skip them all together and just send invites 8 weeks out. But being that about 25 guests are out of town that wouldn't be fair to them or allot enough time to make travel arrangements.

I was highly considering her trickle them out suggestion (until this morning). My fiance and I decided the first batch of save the dates would go out to "the absolute must be there people" (ie. immediate family and wedding party) and going on from there. But two issues came up from that plan. I made a list of everyone of our 80 guests and ordered them from immediate family to out of town family so my trickle them out plan would still leave out of town guest very little time to make arrangements as we put them last due to travel restrictions and if they persisted into next year. The second issue was the possibility of guests finding out that some got a save the date and others did not due to word of mouth and I'm certain our explanation would not make guests feel any better.

I hate not knowing what next spring/summer will bring. I'm such a planner and love lists and knowing exactly what will occur and making backup plans. But COVID seems impossible to plan around since it's so unpredictable.

So I'm reaching out to my spring and summer 2021 brides to see how you all have chosen to go about sending your save the dates with all the uncertainty of what is to come next year.

I appreciate you all.

Stay well!

My wedding is March 2021 and I sent my save the dates out at the end of June. We sent them to everyone who is definitely invited. Obviously there is a possibility that Covid can limit our guest count, but we sent them out as normal.

I would send them out as normal to everyone who you are definitely inviting. If you have to limit your guest count closer to your wedding due to COVID restrictions and such, you can do that at that time, most people should be understanding if restrictions are forcing you to change plans.

    Thanks for sharing!
I guess we can add to our faq the possibility of cutting the list due to possible restrictions.

Our wedding will be in May and I sent them out in June (I know it’s early) but similarly to you I have a good amount of family that are out of state. I want them to have time to take days off and set up travel. Of course I understand the feeling of not knowing if all those people getting save the dates will actually get invited but in all honesty people should be aware of the ongoing and evolving situation. In the event that they won’t all be invited you’ll just have to let them know the situation. It’s not like you don’t want them at your wedding. If there are restrictions there is nothing you can do about that so hopefully your friends and family will be understanding. I think it’s nice that they’ll at least know you are planning on having them there if possible.

I think that people will be understanding. We can't help the restrictions that happen because of COVID, it is out of our hands!

Wedding is May 2021 and we'll be sending out our STDs in November. 6 months out. I think that's normal timing.

Pre-COVID, we only sent STDs to our VIPs and out of state guests (about 40 households versus the 93 households who received invites). I’d recommend doing that so you have the flexibility in cutting guests who didn’t receive STDs if needed.

October 23, 2021 here and I plan to send out my STDs as soon as I pick a photo to use from our engagement shoot! I’ve already gotten one for October 9, 2021 and they said they wanted to put their date out there with all the postponements and recent engagements happening. My wedding is in my home state (MA) and I love in WI with FH and all side lives here so we also wanted enough time for out of state travelers to plan.

I think you can send them out whenever you want. I don’t plan to send them out in tiers. I would rather everyone on my list know they were invited and have to uninvite due to covid restrictions or just postpone.
