I'm considering that too! I think its fun. FH is a sailor though so it's sentimental as well. Its hard to find one that fits enough people. And there's no leaving early if you're inviting elderly guests with a bedtime. So there's pros and cons.

I think they sound fun! The only potential problem as a guest would be if you cannot stay the entire time or have an emergency come up that you need to get off the boat but are out at sea. Also, seasickness for your guests (I am particularly prone to it so I would probably need to take something to help fend it off if I was attending this type of wedding).

There was a posting on this the otherday. It can be a great choice but if your guests get sea sick or the weather turns out bad it could be a disaster. I think if it was just docked and didn't sail it would be really great. Agree totally with Heather that food, drink, and dancing are essential.

It is your guests responsibility to get themselves to your event. You are responsible for hosting a great party.

I live by a lake and I know people rent boats and have parties on them while parked at the dock. That would eliminate some of the problems mentioned above. Also you can have more guest on a boat while it's docked.

Sounds like a beautiful wedding though! Good luck to you!!! Oh and share photos after the wedding Smiley smile

I'll be getting married in yacht next year. I think its a great idea, they offer every thing from cater, open bar or no bar, waiters, and a wedding planner coordinator, and much more. . As far as wether some yachts have the option to open and close windows. The beat deal i have found is electra cruises in huntington beach,ca

I love the water, truly, but I would be against a yacht wedding specifically because I get sea sick. I know guests who get that way, would probably decline, but if you're considering it, make sure all your VIP's are able to stay on a boat for X amount of time and they won't get sick.

They get there. You usually have the ceremony in dock. I've done a number of them, and in good weather, they're lovely. In not so good weather? Not so much.

I think for the majority of guests this would be a really cool experience! Very fun and different. But I agree with PPs that it's important to have an "out" if a guest gets sick or has to leave early. Is there a smaller taxi-like boat that can take those people back to the dock if necessary? Is that a thing? Lol. I know nothing about yachts.

We considered this but the one thing I don't like is you and your guests are restricted to staying until the yacht docks (assuming it's actually sailing). I didn't want my guests to absolutely have to stay until the very last minute unless they want to

I need to take a Dramamine just to read your question. I wouldn't be able to attend. In fact, you wouldn't want me to attend.

Not a fan tbh. Seasickness can be miserable, and people can't leave if they don't feel well or have an emergency.

Host the hell out of your guests. Every time a "worst wedding hosting ever" thread comes up, someone mentions a yacht wedding with poor hosting that was out at sea so they weren't able to leave early. Good hosting is always important of course, but more so if your guests are essentially going to be trapped there the entire time.

I'm going sailing for my wedding, and I plan to go to great lengths to make people as comfy and well-fed as I can before our restaurant reception.

I'm getting married on a yacht next year. The seasickness is our biggest concern but they have special ginger drinks they make for anyone who is feeling queasy and we'll have info on our wedding website on ways to combat seasickness and things to take beforehand/ products that work and don't. My FMIL get seasick and has tried the gambit and has found that Stugeron works the best. You can't purchase it in US but if you have friends abroad you can get it.

We're also having a full bar the entire wedding, will be doing a champagne boarding, will have plenty of food and plan on fully hosting the event.

I'm not concerned about guests "feeling trapped" because the size of our boat is very large. It will have several different areas people can go to escape loud music, get fresh air, relax for a bit, etc.

If it rains we'll do everything indoors but that's fine because the whole yacht is basically windows once you're inside.

My FH is a sailor and I've grown up sailing with my parents. Everyone we know loves boats. It just makes the most sense for us.

We're getting married on a Commodore Cruise boat out of Alameda, CA. I recommend looking at their website and yelp reviews and doing the same for the company you're considering.

I'm not a huge fan. I love the idea and we wanted to do it, but we toured a yacht and even docked in the harbor, my FH was starting to feel seasick. Not to mention most of them felt small for what we wanted or narrow in certain areas. The entire time I just kept imaging my grandmother trying to get around.

And I agree with other posters, unless you're docked, people don't have the option to leave even if they feel sick.

Anytime your guests can't leave when they want, I think it's a bad idea.

Also, if there's bad weather, the windows being up or down are the least of your worries.
