With hindsight being 20/20, I am curious what the lasting stories are about people’s weddings—you know, THE story to share with family and friends about your big day.

For us, it was the story of our rings. My DH and I went to Vegas to get married and arrived a day before checking into our Strip hotel. Our moms were already there, so we checked into our off-Strip location and went to visit. Coming back in the evening, we found our room had been robbed. Many electronics were gone but more importantly, the thief had taken our wedding bands.
My husband’s band was a particularly big blow because my dad had passed away in December and gifted his first wedding band to us. Telling my mom we had lost it to a thief was agonizing. I had thankfully had it resized and engraved so it had some distinct features.
We called the police and filed a report, then immediately after I set to work creating a project on Yelp, asking competing pawn shops and jewelry resellers in Vegas to look out for our rings—pics included.
We heard nothing the next day and ordered filler rings to be delivered overnight from Amazon, but we decided to leave them out of the ceremony due to it being upsetting. Immediately after the ceremony, I turned on my phone and was greeted with an unusual text from a reseller. I called him and put him in speakerphone. The rings had been found!
The next day we were at the police station to collect them, then the day after we went to the Grand Canyon to exchange them. People who watched our wedding via livestream said they didn’t even notice the absence of the rings, and many have wondered how we got through it.
My dad was a very smart and resourceful guy, and part of me wonders if he compelled me to get to work and use what tools I had at my disposal to get the rings back. Whatever it was that compelled me, it worked.
