What's the point of a "toss" bouquet?!

Lauryn, on November 8, 2016 at 4:27 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

I hate flowers - always have. I am doing non-floral centerpieces and the ONLY reason we are having bridal/bridesmaid bouquets is to keep my mom happy. I don't care to preserve any bouquet so I just want to toss mine... but people are looking at me crazy saying I "have to" get a separate toss bouquet. That's crazy! Flowers are already too expensive. Did any of you actually toss your own bouquet??? Am I alone here?

If you don't want your bouquet just use that for a toss bouquet. I'm tossing my actual bouquet because as much as I like the thought of preserving it, I know it will never actually happen.

    To "toss."

I'm not doing a bouquet toss, so problem solved.

Another reason is the actual bouquet can be really heavy. Mine is close to 5 lbs. I could seriously hurt someone if I throw it in someone head.

Bridal bouquets can be quite heavy lol, so most florists will advice to have a smaller one to "toss."

Also, all of the florists I got quotes from included the toss bouquet as a complimentary add-on. If it's not extra money it might also make sense to get the toss bouquet just in case you change your mind about wanting to keep yours.

I don't want to keep my bouquet either but I've heard they are heavy. Might not be a great of idea to throw it. My florist is giving us a toss bouquet for free so I'll throw that one and I'm giving my bouquet to FH Grandma.

I do not plan to keep my bouquet. My bouquet will be pretty heavy with flowers and greenery so will not be throwing that but I will be throwing a plastic flower bouquet with flowers that are similar/match the real bouquet. Who TF cares if they are real flowers or not? The girl who catches it will just be excited to have caught it, and in pictures you won't be able to tell anyway.

My bouquet wasn't even that big and it was 5+ pounds. I would hate to have someone try and catch that out of the air. All the florists I spoke with gave a major discount on a toss bouquet or had it as a complementary add-on.

I also wanted to keep my bouquet, so even if it wouldn't have been complementary I would have purchased a smaller, lighter, and cheaper bouquet to toss.

I am not tossing my actual bouquet. But I bought a cheap bunch of fake flowers from Michaels and tied ribbon around it to use as my toss bouquet!

So you don't ruin your actual bouquet. If you don't care, then throw your real one.

I feel the same way. I don't really care for flowers and I think they're way too overly priced. PLUS, I've been to so many weddings as a bridesmaid and our flowers almost were always wilted before the ceremony even started.

I'm choosing to scratch the bouquet toss all together. After some research, there are a lot more weddings now a days where bride's choose not to toss the bouquet.

    Good luck Smiley smile

The toss bouquet is quite a bit smaller than your bouquet that you would carry down the aisle. So, it's easier to throw, not as big if you hit someone (since you're blindly throwing it over your shoulder) and it's so you can keep your original bouquet.

My florist includes a free toss bouquet with any bridal bouquet, so I didn't think about it too hard.

Like everyone else has pointed out, bridal bouquets can be heavy, so it will be easier to toss and catch a smaller bouquet.

It's not even just a matter of being heavy, there are also pins in your bouquet and chucking that at someone may not be great....

I threw my actual bouquet and kinda regret it. But if you're adamant on not preserving it, go for it! You certainly don't have to have a toss bouquet...

What Swin said ^^ My bouquet wasn't very big and definitely not heavy, it could have been tossed easily. BUT it had several pins in the wrapping, that can take someone's eye out.

We're not even doing that. But mine and his entire family DEMANDED we had a 2 tier cake to save the top tier. Uggggh, waste of money.
