What's more important..

Hi all--I'm completely torn and not sure how to choose. I narrowed down venues to two places. Both are beautiful. I love the one venue but nearby hotels have bad reviews. The other place I really like but love the hotel that is offered with the venue. Too far from each other. How does one choose?! Venue I love has best food and cheapest, hotel I love venue is more expensive and food is nice. Idk what to do.

Is this a destination wedding where everyone will be staying at the hotel? That’s the only situation I’d factor the hotel into it. Even then, my focus would be on the wedding itself — location, food, etc — than the hotel, unless the hotel was really awful.

If the two venues are that far apart does that mean one of them too far away for the convenience of guests? If destination for everyone then I’d personally reconsider either one. All else being equal I’d prioritize the venue. The hotel options don’t have to be high end, just clean and comfortable. If they are really bad that’s another story.

I was in a somewhat similar situation where I prioritized the hotel venue. Some of my VIPs (my parents) had mobility issues so I wanted them to easily get to the reception venue by taking an elevator down. They still got lost. The other venue was less expensive with a wonderful view and a vodka and caviar bar option, but it lacked good nearby hotels. For a wedding weekend, I didn't want my visiting parents or any on my side to be worried about my NYC life. Ultimately, with the my chosen hotel venue, I got the access, elegance, elevated food and guest experience I wanted, but it cost. Best wishes choosing what is best for you.

As a guest attending, the hotels in the area are the least of my concerns where the venue is concerned because they are separate things entirely. I’m guessing that you mean these are for lodging only and are unrelated to the venue itself? Are the hotels described the only options in the area or just the most famous? Guests can and do easily locate their own hotels based on their preferences and budget in any given area that is unrelated to the venue. Pick the venue you love most and let guests figure out on their own where they intend to stay.

I'd choose the venue you love the best. It sounds like food is better there & overall cost is lower. With regard to hotels, call around to others somewhat nearby to see who will have availabilities during your wedding. Most guests will have vehicles to get to & from & even the ones from out of town, Id assume, will have a rental. I don't think 15-20 minute drive to the venue or hotel is a big deal especially to get to a better place.
