What You Wish You Knew Before 1st Dress Appointment

I've scheduled my first dress appointments for February, one at Cherry Blossom Bridal in DC and one at BHLDN. Anyone have any advice? What do you wish you had known before you went dress shopping? FWIW, I'm an older and a "larger" bride at about a size 16 so I'm a little anxious about that, but...

FWIW, I'm an older and a "larger" bride at about a size 16 so I'm a little anxious about that, but Cherry Blossom specializes in larger brides so I'm hoping to feel at home there. I'll be going alone as I don't want anyone's opinion clouding mine and I'm happy doing things on my own. I have clipped some pictures and made a Pinterest board.

Drink tons of water! I did so much talking and got so dehydrated. Bring snacks and deodorant and spray, too!

I wore a slip to avoid showing everyone my butt the whole time!

That I might not cry when I find my dress, but I might have a quiet intuition about it instead and that's ok too.

Also, I'm a lover of fashion, so I could've stayed ALL DAY just playing in dresses.

I'm in your EXACT situation. Also size 16 and planning to go on my own. Sad I'm not fantasizing about it more. Thanks for the tip about Cherry Blossom!

The dress sizes are like double what you normally wear! (Same size larger number) so do not think too much of it! Just try them on and if it doesn't feel right just try the next one on! and don't be afraid to try different style of dresses! Definitely have fun!

If you've got an idea of how you want to wear your hair, style it something similar, doesn't have to be fancy, but if you want an updo, put it in a bun, or if you want curls, do curls,

I found it totally helped me solidify my "look" that I wasted when my hair was right and I could put the right veil style on too.

I almost left the house wearing a thong before my appointment...went back inside and changed into bikini underwear. And it was a good thing I did since the consultant was in the room with me. (I mean, I'm not the most modest person ever but a thong might've been too much haha)

I also agree with not bringing too many people. It's hard to know if YOU truly love a dress when you have so many opinions flying at you.

Be honest with your consultant! It's not gonna offend them if you don't like something. Seriously.

    ETA- spelling is challenging
