Just Said Yes June 2021

What will happen to my wedding?

Taylor, on November 4, 2020 at 7:39 PM Posted in Planning 1 27

Hi guys,

Without going into too much detail, Biden won the election. Going forward, I am now more worried about what will happen to my actual wedding. I have read plenty of stuff saying that the nation is going straight back into lockdown, and with that, im worried my wedding will be canceled.

The date is June 12, 2021, but I was wondering if anyone else here is worried about that, or if you have any encouraging words regarding the issue? My Fiancé and I are absolutely thrilled to get married, but with this recent election out come, the idea of an actual ceremony is now clouded due to federal closure mandates.

I appreciate any feedback and suggestions.

Well, first, you have clearly more information about the results of the election than any one else currently. That's quite a feat! And second, there are no actual plans to shut things down at the federal level that I have heard from any credible accounts.

So, my suggestion is to continue your planning as if the pandemic will still be an issue next June because no one can say that it won't at this point. The pandemic itself is way more of a concern than any measures enacted to prevent its spread. This means being flexible with plans A, B, and C. Good luck to you!

I would agree with Maggie’s input/advice. Best of luck to you in your planning! Hopefully the pandemic will be more under control by June. My international wedding is planned for them too, so I am hoping for a vaccine that’s widely available by then!

Election or not, covid isn’t going anywhere 😂
But how nice would that be? I would probably cancel or have under 50 guests for sure. My state just implemented new indoor and outdoor restrictions as of last week until further notice and under 50 is allowed right now. Then throw in influenza season which is Jan - March peak season! Yikes... double check your contracts, too.
    Best wishes! 🤍

Yes I'm worried too. I threw the towel in months ago and refuse to take the risk of thousands of dollars on a wedding that may not happen due to COVID mandates, regulations, and precautions.

Whatever you’re reading is inaccurate and I would be more worried if Trump one and everyone dies before my wedding.

Hey gal! Mine is June 4, 2021. Ours is completely outside so hopefully that would help. If we do end up getting canceled our plan is to have a mini-mony and have a big reception in a year or so when things have calmed down. I am hopeful that by June we will be okay Smiley smile

    1. Lockdowns are on a state by state basis based on local conditions, not on the federal level. I know of no legal basis for a federal one. So if that’s your concern, look at the governor in the state you will have wedding in and what type of action they took in the past year to get a sense how it might affect you.

    2. This is the perfect question to ask your venue. Our venue gave us Option B if they were only allowed 50% capacity, option C if they were only allowed 25% capacity, and a refund if they couldn’t host the event. This is part of your vetting process to find a good venue and it’s the contract negotiations.

I would talk to your venue. Some venues are pretty Calm about weddings. You should be okay by June.

Was going to have my wedding June 6th 2021 but because of other reasons have decided to change it to 2022. What I would do if you dont want to change the year is have a small backyard wedding or go to the courthouse and get married and when it's done and over with and safe then have the wedding of your dreams!!

    1. If you know that Biden won, you must have some REALLY good inside information somewhere because everyone in the good old USA is still sitting here on the edge of our seats waiting for an outcome.
    2. As someone said above, it’ll be up to your governor. Our governor just pushed us back a phase, so the venue count is limited to 50 outdoors and 25 indoors and he gave people like 3 days to change it. I’m in a local wedding group on Facebook and many of the brides supposed to be getting married very soon are writing letters to complain because they had no time to adjust their plans and could be out some money due to his rash decision. So I would keep an eye on what your governor does over anything else.
    3. I think that you still have a bit of time to go to see what happens. I know it’s coming up shortly, but I’d wait it out just a bit longer because maybe more will get opened up sooner. My uncle lives in South Carolina and he said it’s completely different there than it is here in Connecticut, they can go to bars and don’t have a masks required rule.

Biden didn't win ... YET! They haven't even announced or called the race yet. But we also don't know that the election would even cause another shutdown or not that's literally just speculation. Either way, your wedding isn't even the beginning of the year so I wouldn't worry about it yet. You still have 7 months and literally anything can happen. I would continue to plan as normal

We canceled our April 4th 2020 wedding due to covid. Pushed it back to April 2, 2021. We have decided to go ahead with everything and just take safety measures. Our guest list is under 20 and we are having it in our back yard with family only. Im planning on make up some small hand sanitizers and we will have masks for those who might want one. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I think this really depends on where you live. Biden all but admitted in his town hall that a nationwide lockdown or mask mandates aren't enforceable at the federal level. Unfortunately if you live in a blue state (like I do, but thankfully I'm not getting married here), then you're at the mercy of the governor.

That being said, I don't think there will be many restrictions in June. Biden doesn't want an economic downturn on his record. Just my 2 cents!

And the election hasn't been decided yet.

So, Biden has not won the election yet. The results are not in. I would try not to stress over something that has not even happened yet. Also, your wedding is 7 months away. No one has any idea what June 2021 will look like at this point. Continue on with your wedding planning and don't stress about things this soon.

The election has no bearing on the realities of the current pandemic. If only it were that easy, & that electing a new president would make it all disappear!

I’m not sure why you think there would be a nationwide lockdown, but it wouldn’t be that much different from the state by state ones. Without a doubt, they really suck if they impact your wedding (or a funeral, or a holiday, or anything else!) but the point is to save lives & flatten the curve so that we can be more open sooner.

I’m in a similar place as you—worried about what will happen! My state currently has strict gathering limits that won’t change until a vaccine is widely distributed. I’m trying to focus on what I have control over, which is basically just creating endless backup plans, haha.
