What weight cardstock for favor boxes?

Natasha, on April 12, 2010 at 4:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I'm doing DIY favor boxes, but I'm not sure what weight cardstock to use. I'll be using my Sizzix die cutter to cut them out, but I don't want to waste my money on a bunch of cardstock that just isn't thick enough.

It definitely depends on the size and what you are putting inside, but it's probably best to make a couple of trial boxes to see what works best.

They're only going to be like 3" tall, in the shape of a milk carton, like this:

As for what we're putting in, I'm not entirely sure. Leaning towards M&M's but may do kisses or something, but almost definitely some kind of candy.

That looks like it's made from simple scrapbooking paper. I would probably try to find something at least 80 lb. 60 might be okay tho.

I would go with 80lb card-stock. Be careful not to choose something that is too stiff or the edges will crack - sometimes all the way through! You will want to purchase some scor-tape (1/4" width should be perfect) to hold your boxes together. You don't want them to fall apart.

If you are considering a shimmery paper stock, A Muse has a beautiful range of 84lb cardstock called Shimmer Couture. It is made with 100% organic materials (no metals) and is very flexible. It's what we use for our favor boxes. www.amuseartstamps.com

Good luck! This will be a fun project.

Linda - Thanks! The plan right now is to make the boxes out of varying black and white patterns. They're just really hard to find, I've noticed.
