What was your decline rate?

Zoe, on June 24, 2019 at 11:23 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I'm reading online to expect a 20% decline rate but that seems pretty high - we are inviting 225 people. How many people did you invite vs how many people actually RSVP'd yes?

We invited 160 and I am waiting on a few more people so we will be at either 110 or 118. Granted, I have a lot of out of town family and many of them have health problems preventing them from traveling. We also gave plus ones to single guests, and many opted not to have one.

We invited 147 and got 98 "yes" RSVPs. This was much lower than we expected, but I had initially wanted a guest list of about 100 so it worked out perfectly. Most of our declines were due to people living very far out of town and being unable to travel/take off work, and due to conflicts with some graduations. Everyone's situations are so different though... If we had chosen a week later or a week earlier we probably would've had different responses, but it's hard to tell.

I am assuming I’ll have 30% or so decline. We have lots of out of towners, and quite a few older relatives I know won’t travel.

The decline rate depends on how many “just-to-be-nice” invites you sent. There’s some family members that live far away who I knew wouldn’t make it but I invited anyways so they felt included. I also invited some parents and children where the parents opted not to bring their children and I gave a plus one to all single guests but some opted not to bring a date. So I invited 74 and we have 48 coming.

We haven't gotten all our RSVPs yet but just from word of mouth it's looking like we will have 60-70% attendance. This is mostly because FH's family is way out of town.

We invite 115 and have 80 guests coming. So around 30% declined. We also have nearly all our guests traveling significant distance.

We invited 225, and are expecting 120-130 guests (waiting on 15 RSVPs). Right now we have 121 "yes". We expected a larger no response. Over half our guests were out of state, we invited full families & SOs (some are coming without them), a lot of elderly guests, a lot of friends of our parents, a couple military members (will be deployed), and our wedding is in the summer. Our venue requires pretty much everyone to stay in a hotel (3 groups are staying at home and driving but that's it). So we had a 46% decline rate, so a lot higher than typical weddings!

Thank you for all the replies! I think I am a bit nervous because we only have about 20 out of town guests, and half of them are in the bridal party. I would ideally like to be around 200 but luckily we budgeted based on every single people RSVPing yes.

We invited 102 and we have 20 declines and we’re waiting on 2 responses. I think the 20% is right on the nose. We’re at almost exactly 20% declines.

I'm glad to hear about this we have a cozy venue that seats about 75 comfortably with a dance floor but we're inviting a little over 80 and I was worried sick about it lol.

We invited 160ish. Our RSVP date was last Tuesday and as of now 59 have declined, 90 are attending, and we're still waiting on 14. So for us almost 40% have declined, which is honestly way more than we were expecting. But it's life and that happens.
