What was the biggest waste of time and or money you discovered after having you wedding?

Lindsey, on January 16, 2014 at 11:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

I am just wondering what the already married ladies on this site would say is the biggest regret/waste of time and money they found after their wedding day?

For starters we didn't have menus, programs, no bathroom baskets, no real cocktail hour. I bet not one of my guests would remember the linens, napkins or centerpieces. Hell, even I really didn't pay attention to them. Just remember that the little details will only matter to you, no one else is going to pay attention. People remember whether they had a good time, if they drank a lot and ate good food.

From weddings I've been involved in:

Candy bar. They really are kind of expensive for what they are.

Anything Monogrammed- then you can't re-sell after the wedding.

Any paper related items: programs, menus, signs, invitations...

Fancy Aisle decor. Everyone is focused on the bridal party no what lines the floor.

I don't regret anything either, but I didn't go overboard and I don't feel like anything was a waste. Having a live band made a huge impact though. I under-estimated how much the guests would like that.

Yea Amy S you're right, the thing my guests loved the most about our wedding was our favors, we had them release wish lanterns and the fact that we did our grand exit by boat. BOOM.

The details are nice, but I agree most people aren't going to notice them. Even if they do notice them, those details probably aren't going to really affect the guests experience overall. If you have good food, good music, and a bar of some sort, your guests are going to have a good time.

    Having actually been to two weddings as a guest last year (and let me tell you, that is weird.....) this is what I notice;

-no one takes programs. Do a blackboard

-great music, either a band or a DJ is key; not so loud that no one can talk

-everyone loved the photobooth (I personally like the boothy ones, not the pipe and drape with props....) and the candy bar. (You'll need less candy than you think. Not everyone will do it, but those who do love it.)

-Don't bother with monogrammed napkins, personalized cake cutters or flutes, or favors

I agree with Amy - those little details weren't a waste for because they were the vision I had for my day. Were they necessary? No. But I was able to afford them without having to sacrifice other areas, so I had them, loved them, and don't regret it.

@Celia...what specific type of photo booth are you referring too? I've only seen the ones with the drapes, just trying to picture which one you liked.

I like the ones that look like booths rather than open areas with curtains or backdrops. The antique-y ones. NYphotobooth is the place in my area, but frankly, no matter what form, people just love them.

Thanks for all your comments! It's helpful to know what you guys think. I do know that we will be skipping the programs. we are not getting married in a church (i would do programs then) instead outside at a state park and our ceremony will only be about 20 min long. The blackborad is a really good idea, thanks @celiia!
