What was the best cake what was the worst?

Nan-sayy, on September 10, 2010 at 12:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Knowing how much wedding cakes cost what was the best slice of cake you've had and the worst ?

My best slice was a recent wedding it was 2 different flavors and I got lemon wow it was good! kinda sweet but man it was very moist and delicious and the cake was pretty too. The worst it was actually a recent birthday cake but it was a sweet 15 cake so it looked like a wedding cake it was average looking nothing special and the cake itself was soooo dry and flavorless by far the worst cake I've ever had I couldn't even eat more than one bite yuck

I may be biased, but my favorite wedding cake ever was the one NotFroofy made for our wedding. It had four layers. The bottom one was dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and vanilla butter cream icing. The second was lemon cake with raspberry mousse filling and lemon butter cream icing. The third was sour cream spice cake with pecans and sour cream frosting. The top layer was the traditional British fruit cake with marzipan and royal icing, which we saved for our anniversary.

Worst was a tie between the nasty dry "cake" at a bridal faire and a very sour grapefruit at a recent wedding.

Best was the apricot rum cake from my graduation.

WORST was my grandparents' wedding cake. They remarried 10-11 years ago and I still remember, I think EVERYONE remembers, how awful the cake was. It was fondant and terrible fondant at that. It was hard and tasted awful. So of course now that I'm getting married I am like NO FONDANT. Did taste some at a tasting though and was pleasantly surprised that theirs was actually good. I thought fondant in general was bad because of that experience.

My favorite cake is the cake one of my co-workers makes for all the birthday potlucks. She makes the buttercream herself and it is delicious!!! Probably incredibly bad for you too lol Costco would be my 2nd fave ;-)

I'm totally a Red Velvet cake fan!

The worst- pineapple almond rum something or other crap that tasted like someone dumped a can of pineapple juice of cardboard and frosted it.

I can't think of the best but the worst was my friend's wedding.

She had a VERY elaborate wedding that probably would blow all of our budgets out of the water and her cake was the most picturesque thing I've ever seen in my life.

We just ogled it all night long and when it came time to eat it you could actually see people taking a bite and spitting it out. The outer layer actually tasted and felt like those fake wax lips that you buy for halloween.

Luckily my friend was clueless and didn't realize her $7,000 tasted like toxic waste. lol.

For me it's all about a moist cake. I'd much rather have a really moist plain cake than a fancy flavor that's on the dry side. We're going with a buttery yellow cake flavored with real Grand Marnier. The tasting was SOOO good.

Best cake = the Dutch bakery we used for our wedding. Their cake was light, moist, the icing delicate and lightly sweet, and they had to-die for Bavarian creme in the middle. Oooh it was so good. All their flavors were good.

Worst = Went to a local venue near my parents house that was hosting a bridal fair (yeah, 'subtle' way to show off their facilities). They had a big red velvet cake out for guests to eat, the kind they actually serve at their weddings they have. I took a bite of it and gagged. It was thick, chewy, dry, stale and did -not- taste like red velvet! The frosting was dry and very pungent tasting. I then tasted their other offering to get the flavor out of my mouth, a lemon cake. Can't mess that up right? Wrong. Absolutely bitter. I actually spit it out in my napkin. Yech. Absolutely terrible. Had all the same problems too as the red velvet cake.

Don't remember the worst. But I'm pretty sure our wedding cake will be the best. We have a local bakery that's pretty much an institution & priced very reasonably.

I didn't know what red velvet cake even was till I saw it on wedding shows. But, at our tasting, FH & I were really impressed with it. All of the flavors were good, but this one was really special & very moist.

We're doing red velvet with lemon filling & a layer of this combo of key lime/mango. OMG.

Best cake: Coconut pound cake with vanilla frosting and shaved toasted coconut on top. It was served at a beach wedding.

Worst cake: cupcakes from costco at a wedding. No one ate them because they weren't passed out, just left on the table.
