What Type of Manicure?

I am a not woman who gets her nails done on a regular basis. I have only had two manicures in my entire life and both times were a French manicure with traditional polish. I want to get mani/pedis with my BP and it has to be on the Friday before my Sunday wedding. I'm worried about the polish...

I want to get mani/pedis with my BP and it has to be on the Friday before my Sunday wedding. I'm worried about the polish chipping before the wedding. What are Gel and Shellac manicures? Are they designed to last longer? I do not want acrylics but would like something to still look good on the wedding day. What would you ladies with more manicure experience suggest?

Date Twin KristnB, I remember you posting about your nails! I really like that look with the subtle glitter over the the French.

So do you have to go back to the salon to get gels removed?

Or just wait them out? Or google something? You can't just pluck em off like acrylics that's for sure! lol, they last a really long time for a very good reason.. just realizing this myself. hahaha.

To remove gel or shallac polish, you have to break the seal by taking a file and filing/scuffing the top layer of the polish. Then you soak them in acetone (put it in a small glass bowl). You can also soak cotton balls with the acetone, put one on each nail, and then wrap the nail with aluminum foil and let it set a while. I then use an orange stick to gently scrape the polish off after it's loosened up.

You can also buy gel polish remover wraps at a drug store but I am not sure how well those work or not. Acetone is cheap, but you have to be really careful cuz that crap ruins stuff if you're not! (I made a big spot of FH's ugly coffee table...)
