What type of beer?

Emily, on January 2, 2018 at 10:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
What type of beer should I sever at my wedding reception? Yes we will be having wine and liquor as well but I already have all that figured out. I was going to have 2 types of beer so tell me your favorite beer as well at your husbands or FH favorite too! I was told to have bud light or Budweiser and/or Coors.

Personally, coors and bud light are beers I drank in college and not ones that I would serve at my wedding but everyone has different taste in beers! Some great options are corona, pacifico, blue moon, stella, etc.

I think a domestic light beer and a craft beer would be nice! You could do bud light and then something else, like blue moon

Agreed. Bud light is very popular in my area - fat tire is a weakness though haha. If you have to pick one - I would do bud light. If you CAN do two, I’d do a light and a dark-ish

Beer, like wine, has too many varieties and you should really appeal to a broader spectrum. Not sure what you plan is for wine, but typically there is more than just 1 red and 1 white option. While offering coors light or bud light is fine, you should also try to have a few other options. Maybe shoot for 3 varieties: an ipa, a wheat, a stout/porter, an amber, a lager or a pilsner.

We're having Bud light because I know that's what a lot of FH's family drinks and then two varieties of local beers. If there are any locals, maybe try that? I'm not much of a beer drinker, but when we get beer it's usually Newcastle or Sierra Nevada IPA.

We are doing coors and bud light in kegs because they're both really popular here. For cocktail hour we will have some more types of beer in cans. We are just trying to limit bottles.

I don't really drink beer. But as a bartender, my opinion would be to have one beer that's domestic and one that's imported. Best of luck.

My FH and I were just talking about this... as PPs have mentioned there are tons of varieties and I also think that geography plays a role... for example, St. Louis favors Bud and Milwaukee seems to lean Miller...

We are considering doing a domestic light option, as well as a local craft beer or two.

This, for us, was a "know your crowd" thing.

We went with Stella Artois, Angry Orchard and Bud Light.

We will have bud light and trying to get a good local craft beer. FH and I love craft beer and always go to different breweries. I can't even stomach bud light/bud/coors light, any of the mass produce light beers, so I definitely suggest at the very least having something like blue moon or a little better quality then bud light.

One domestic and import. I love Blue Moon or Stella Artois personally.

I would go with a nicer standard beer like Blue Moon or Stella, then pick a good IPA from a local brewery.

Bud/Bud Light and Coors are basically the same thing (and both complete garbage IMO).

I love a good IPA, I like lagers, and I like pilsners. So if it were me, I'd look for an IPA from a local brewery (we had beer from the Captain Lawrence brewery which is local to us), and then either a Sam Adams Boston lager, or a Stella or Heineken (both pilsners).

Totally a "know your crowd" thing. I have a lot of snobby beer drinkers in my group. While Coors would be fine with my dad, most of my friends wouldn't want to drink it. A lot of us have lived in New England so Sam Adams would be popular for me, and an alternative like Stella would be good. But we also live in Florida so an easy go-to in hot climates is Corona or Landshark. I'm also personally a fan of Fat Tire and ciders like Angry Orchard.

Definitely know your crowd on this one. DH and I are one of those "snobby beer drinkers" and drink local craft pretty much exclusively! But we provided Modelo for family who are not into the craft scene so much.

If you're intent on more familiar options, Bud, Coors, Modelo and Stella are popular in our extended family. If you plan on going craft, a lager or pilsner will fit the bill. IPAs can be quite polarizing depending on bitterness, so know your crowd there.

I'd probably go one light (lager/pils/wheat ale) and one dark (stout/porter/barleywine).

ETA: meant to add, for craft brands that distribute nationally, Sam Adams Boston Lager is a good ol'. Not super familiar with widely-distributed stouts though.

Personally, I think bud light / coors light is fine, and then one slightly heavier beer (maybe something like Stella, Blue moon, etc.). Bud / Coors are the same thing lol
