What to write to identify the card box???

hurleydog1, on March 20, 2009 at 1:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi! I am using a basket with a lid for my card box. It is a tropical theme so it fits well but most people will not know it's for cards. I tied the lid down so that it cannot open all the way...I heard all the horror stories about wait staff stealing the cards!! I am trying to think of a cute poem or saying to print out on a tent card that will sit next to the basket to basically tell people it's a card basket. Since it has a lid I wanted to include something that tells people to lift the lid. Any poets out there?? Any ideas of what to write?? Thanks!!

I'm not the best with poems and I'm assuming you mean the box is for gift cards? Um well if it for gift cards what about something like...If you'd like to deposit a small gift, just give the lid a lift? Haha that was probably terrible! But good luck!

Hi, Are you having someone watch over the guest book? If so, then I would have the card box with that (and a table behind for the gifts) and untie the basket and leave the lid open, then as soon as everyone has arrived for the reception, Put someone in charge of loading the gifts and cards into you or a realitive vehicle and locking it. I wouldn't leave them in a locked room at the reception hall overnight (if you are having the gift opening at the same locations), as staff would have keys, Maybe get your ushers to lock them in your vehicle.

    Good Luck!

Great question! How about putting on the front :

    "Thank You"

    "With Warmest Thanks"

I love the "give a gift, give a lift" idea--cute Smiley smile

Or you could put an envelope on the front, but that might look tacky.

Why not just put a small letter shaped slit in the lid for cards, that way you can secure the lid down and your mind will be at rest of any wandering hands?

I am doing something similar, I am having a wishing well. Which is a well shaped wooden box, all secured with just a little slit for cards. I am planning on putting something in the invitations about the wishing well so people are prepared for it.

    If not:

'To the tropical box, please may you swim,

lift the lid and pop your cards in'!!

'Thanks you for your kind donation,

lift the lid and place them under the ocean'

I'm just tying in with your tropical theme, hope it helps.

If you are looking for the 'proper' way to receive cards/gift envelopes, it is customary and proper etiquette to carry a small satin draw-string bag around your wrist or something to go with your theme. This is worn/carried by the bride while the newlyweds go to every table and personally thank each guest. At that time, guests will hand out their gift envelope and you place them in the bag or whatever you choose. I, personally, think a card box in general is tacky and also temps people to possibly steal but that is just me.

Just to add, an online friend of mine from Austrailia held a kangaroo and they went table to table and guests put envelopes in the kangaroo's pouch.
